Any way you can get it to the artist without coming across as a nuisance or an
amateur would be a good way. Realistically, the best way to get it such an
artist would be through a publisher who has worked with that artist in the past.
I'd strongly suggest getting some feedback on the song from someone in the
business before trying to get it to a famous artist.

If you have a song that you would like to offer to a specific artist, and
they are extremely famous, how would you go about getting it to them? Is
there
a channel that must be followed to have it considered? Is there any way to
get the song directly to the artist?
Here's something (mildly) unpleasant to think about. Many artists do not
pick which songs they cover. The songs are suggested by the politicos at
the *label*. The artist does not want to "diss" these label types by
bringing in a song from the outside by an "unknown." (Lucinda WIlliams or
Paul Brady is about as unknown as they'll usually go). Even if you put
into (literally) into the artist's hand and they think it's the best song
they have ever heard, they may not want to cover it for the above reason,
ie they don't want to alientate anyone at the label because then their next
project might not get the same attention as the other 57 people on that
label.
Sigh. That's show biz. A more practical move might be to get your songs
covere by the famous artists *to be*- then when they "make it" you'll be in
like Flynn.

This is true to an extent, but when the artist is "extremely famous", this tends
to become less of a problem. Garth Brooks, for example, tells the label what he
wants rather than the other way around.

This is very good advice, IMO.
