seems odd to me.

You can take your 1,000 and put the CD out yourself. I'd be very
leery of this deal. What are their reasons for asking cash from you?
Sounds like those photo scams where before you can be a model
you need to buy and expensive portfolio.
This is EXTREMELY common! It also is usually extremely sucky.
Here's the deal: the company owns a small studio. They bring you as
talent an records you - that's the good part. The bad part is that you
pay for CD production and promotion. They say they will promote you
but they don't. What usually happens is they own you pretty much
forever. You take their recording and shop yourself and if you get a
deal, they sell their contract to the company.
If the company actually will shop you and get a deal (and you really
want a deal - Please see my other post just a few behind this one
"About the elusive record deal ") it can be good for you. The thing
is, the last thing I ever want again is a record deal and that is what
anyone would feel if they new the insides of it.
Recording is expensive but it costs about the same now to get a
releasable CD as it did 25 years ago to do a decent demo. I'd say suck
it up, do what you have to in order to produce your own CD and don't
sign on to be a slave. Read that post I put up. It it a truth every
musician should know about.

If you hand over this money, could I interest you in some beachfront
property in Texas?
I also have some interesting 'for rent income' property in Iraq.
By the way, make sure the money you send me is in cash or money draft
please, no checks.
[All in jest - this offer you have is a total scam]
