I just read an interview in which he praised his mouthpiece,
but didn't name it, except to say that it was from England.
Does anybody out there know Sam Butera's setup?

Thanks,

Hal

He and I both showed up one night to sit in with a mutual friend at a
bar gig. I asked him a lot of questions, but "What setup do you play?"
was certainly not one of them! However, I think it may have looked like
a metal Berg. Of course, that doesn't narrow things down much.
Besides, a lot of Bergs are machined very poorly. I wouldn't consider
playing an unmodified Berg.

He plays EXTREMELY loud, and to me it sounded like he was putting a lot
of effort into it.

I was told by someone who knows Butera that it is an older "duck bill" style
Berg. Apparently almost impossible to find these days.

Hi,
He uses a Berg "Charlie Ventura" model.
(It has Charlie's name on it.) 110/2
Selmer Mk VI (117,XXX) .
Take care,
Tony Butera (no relation, just another sax-playing Butera)

Thanks much. I looked like a Berg, but I wanted to know more.

The man is amazing.
