I can recommend Gayle as well. She's sold me five horns in as many
years, each as advertised and fairly priced. The 5-day approval policy
doesn't hurt any, either.
And the inventory she has will put a smile on your face (ask for her
quarterly lists). I don't know where she gets 'em...but she gets 'em.
And she doesn't hit you over the head for them, either.

I also like Wichita band instruments, they are also very helpful
and nice and have good inventories for fair prices.
USA Horn in New Jersey has a really good rep but I have not found
their net behavior nearly as impressive as the above two. Their
prices are also much higher than the above dealers. They do
offer a year garauntee though, I don't think either of the above
do.
I shy away from dealers who do not post prices with their inventory.
Doesn't mean anything is wrong, but I just feel better about dealers
who post their prices. VintageSax and Wichita both post prices.

I am sure I would not be alone in recommending Gayle Fredenburgh in
Florida as a first-rate source for vintage saxes. I recently purchased a
horn from her that was precisely as she had described it to me by phone
and fax, the price was fair and reasonable, the packing for FedEx shipment
was superb. This was a sight-unseen deal for a substantial amount of
money, but there was never any moment when I worried that I might not get
my money's worth. I couldn't be happier with the purchase.

Let me put a plug in for Charles Fail Music in Marietta, GA. They have
a web page at:
and primarily do web/mail order. Since I live relatively close to Atl,
I came and got the horn I ordered from them. They have a great shop,
they had completely gone through the sax I bought and replaced every
pad and cork on the whole thing (and put it in a like-new hard case)
and they let me try a bunch of mouthpieces before I bought the horn
and mouthpiece I wanted.
What was really impressive in my case was that I'm a doubler (mainly
clarinet and tenor sax) and just needed an inexpensive alto to round
out my arsenal. You expect the above level of service when you're
buying an old Selmer for $2500, but they did all this for a Martin
Indiana that they sold for $400. Charles said "I gave you the horn and
charged you for the work," and I tend to just about believe him...

I must say that USA horn is really responsive on the net. I corresponded
with them when I was interested in getting a Mark VI tenor, and they
really got me a great horn......

I favor the work and horn quality of Charles Fail Music... He is in the
Atlanta area, but, sells world wide. His web sight is:
You may want to call him also, his number is listed on the web sight. He
has a lot more horns than he has listed.

I couldn't help but notice that our friend in New Orleans hasn't been
mentioned in this thread. Although I wouldn't want my little sister to stand
within 100 feet of him after dark, I'd recommend checking out Steve Goodson's
shop in New Orleans or on the WWW. You can get a quick glance at
http://www.saxgourmet.com.
Another dealer worth checking out is Steve Fowler. His website is at
http://www.netcom.com/~sfowler/fms.html.

This is such a run-on sentence that I can't tell if you're trashing or
praising USA Horn.
Who's DR? He wouldn't happen to have an MD (mouthpiece dude) degree, would
he?

I don't quite understand what you are trying to say here. All I said was
that I corresponded with Brian from USA horn, and was in the market for a
Mark VI Tenor. I had recently purchased a Mark VI Alto from a friend who
had bought it through USA horn. It was to replace his other Mark VI which
he was stolen and he thought lost. He got the horn back and then had 2
mark VI altos.
I mentioned this to Brian in my email, and he remembered the horn, but did
not have anything at the moment. A few days later I got a message from him
about a Tenor they had, and he thought it was a good match for the Alto.
And it is. Brian actually said the horn played like a 10 and looked like
an 8 (out of 10). It has pretty much all the lacquer there, so I'd say it
is more like a 9.
I do not think I'm "Sucking up" to anyone. I am just giving my opinion and
tell people who care to read this that USA Horn, in my case, did an
excellent job in delivering what they said they had. I had tried some mark
VI tenors from local dealers here in the SF Bay Area, but they were
expensive and really not that great.

I
I don't know where you're coming from. USA Horn is (deservedly) very
well regarded on this newsgroup.
If you really want to help people, tell us who "DR" is.

That WWW address is correct.
I've also done business with Four Winds. I recommend them highly.
Craig
I like FourWinds also...they are very nice and follow up the purchase
well.

You obviously have strong feelings about dealers, and may even have some
point to make. Could you please try to express it more coherently? This
reads like you wrote it when you were purple in the face with rage. It
could at various points be either a flame or praise, and yet it is not
clear whom you intend to flame or praise.
Do the group a favor. Go back, think about what you really mean, and
post again. TIA.
>**BRENT**
I just had the opportunity to deal with them and they are tthe real thing.
They do not gouge you, care about instruments and are always willing to follow
up. I give them an A.

Read the message again Jim. Unless I misread, he gave major kudos
