Hi,
I went to a local (Van Nuys,Ca) Keyboard Concepts Piano Store today.

They are suggesting I buy the new Pearl River Console Piano 43 inch
high for about $2200.

Is that a good buy.

I haven't followed that brand and don't find any used Pearl River Pianos for
sale.

Does that brand of piano have drawbacks?

The piano would not be used for professional performance, just a home piano,
but I want good sound and good value, no high maintenance problems.

TIA, John

All Manufacturers have high low quality.

When pianos are new they have new strings.

If you put new strings on a cheap guitar it sounds better than
a priceless guitar with dead strings.

Thus great pianos with 20 year old strings may sound bad especially when the
hammers get hardening of the arteries.

These pianos are made in China and they are junk!!! You would be far better
off purchasing a second hand upright.

Thanks for your reply Meyers.

Can you elaborate on the reason they are junk just for my information.

The Pearl River Company claims it will be the worlds largest piano
manufacturer.

Since Yamaha puts their name on some of the Pearl River Pianos I was not
sure

if I should discount that brand.

Is the piano made with cheap wood, cheap tuning pegs, and bad piano keys.

I did tell the dealer that I noticed that the piano he was showing me had a
stuck key.

He said, oh yea, then reached inside the piano and got it working.

If the pianos have keys that stick, then I agree, they are worthless.

Bear in mind that the above is just one person's opinion. I would not
characterize them as "junk". Entry level, yes. Junk, no.

>The Pearl River Company claims it will be the worlds largest piano

This is a true statement.

>Is the piano made with cheap wood, cheap tuning pegs, and bad piano keys.

No.

>If the pianos have keys that stick, then I agree, they are worthless.

Saying a piano that has a sticking key is "worthless" is like saying your house
is worthless if a door sticks when the humidity is up a little. Would you tear
down a house because a door was sticking? Of course not.

Sticking keys is a common problem with pianos, and can happen to any of them.
If you tossed out every piano that had a sticky key, you'd have to toss out
every Steinway ever built, as well as most other pianos. Yamaha keys stick
sometimes too - it's a maintenance issue, related to moisture, and easily
solved. Most new pianos need prep work once they arrive at a dealer's store.
Pearl Rivers are no exception. A few simple adjustments, and you're off to the
races.

Pearl River verticals are just fine for the money spent. I don't think their
grands offer as good a value as some of the other Chinese makers, but their
verticals are just fine.

Keep in mind the price range you're in, and don't try to compare it to pianos
that sell for twice as much money. It isn't supposed to compete with those. And
don't take someone's subjective opinion as gospel. Make your own decision
independent of other people's opinions.

I have toured the factory, and seen the care that is taked during the
production process, as well as thequality of the raw materials.
One man's opinion regarding" Junk" seems to me ill-informed.

I might add that "Lagar Berman" agrees that these are excellent
pianos---just go see the web site and he'll tell you--of course he is
playing one of their grands.

Would you please quit dispensing sensible and sound advice and just call

Regarding the above messages.

Just for your information the reason these questions were asked is because
my
father 82 years old recently died.

He loved playing piano and I just wanted to buy a good piano to remind
myself
of him.

Now you know the rest of the story.

I hope you both are 13 years old otherwise I cringe at the thought you are
raising children.

If you are, I am sure you won't experience the love and respect I had for
my father.

He could hardly play the piano but he could pick out the notes to some of
his favorite tunes. I will never forget him, but I'm sure I'll forget you
guys.

I bet you both go out and laugh at the mentally challenged children or as
you guys would put it, the retards.

When you learn what it is to be a Man you will know it means respect for
others
as well as responsibility.

Are you guys the ones that go around complaining you can't buy a house.

I saved my money and did without a piano so that I could buy a house twenty
years ago..

Oh, by the way it would sell for about $750,000 today.

I won't tell you what I paid for it, I don't want you to think I'm bragging.

I also won't tell you about the great times I have had flying my airplane
now that
I do have money.

I guess I'll just go back to the rec.aviation newsgroup and forget the piano
for awhile. It just doesn't seem to interest me much anymore.

Your contribution to others can inspire them or put out the flame.

At least promise me you won't do it to your children, they don't deserve
you.

Thanks, flame out

(and a whole string of ridiculous crap along the same lines as above not quoted
- you get the picture)....

Mr. rkane, what in the hell is your problem? That was just a little inside joke
between the two of us, or actually, between all of us who have been here for a
while - it had absolutely nothing to do with you. It was in fact Dave poking
fun at *me* for being so polite to you and trying to help you.

You asked a question about Pearl River pianos. You were told they were junk. I
told you they were good pianos for their price range, and advised you not to
make decisions based on the subjective opinions of a few posts, to play the
piano and decide for yourself - good, sound advice. Dave pokes a little good
natured fun at *me*, and *you* get your panties in a wad.

I am sorry about your dad. But unless you simply have difficulty with
comprehension, you can bite my ass.

And now you know why Dave was teasing me....

Flame lit, finger on the trigger.......
