I'm looking to buy a digital piano and am considering the pros and cons of
a portable keyboard vs a "standalone" furniture-looking unit such as the
Clavinovas.

Can one disassemble the standalones? I'd only imagine doing this if I had
to take it in for a repair, or if I *simply* had to take it with me on
vacation. IOW, once or twice a year.

I'm a bit leery of buying a keyboard and then having to attach pedal-gear
plus speakers and/or amplifiers. I'm looking to invest my time in
practicing, not gear-manipulation, at least at this point.

Thanks
Susan

We have a Panasonic SX-PX101 that is a standalone unit. It is a really
decent digital piano that we disassembled in about 5 minnutes with a
phillips screwdriver. There were 4 screws holding the piano assy to the
legs and base. This unit also has the little rubber feet on it if you
wish to use it as a tabletop unit. The speakers are built in so there is
no need to drag along extra things like amps, speakers and the other
things that came along with it. It is a full keyboard, almost 6 feet
long so it was a little bit of a snug fit in the car. Not what I would
call portable, but it isnt something you would need to call the piano
movers in for.

Given about 5 minnutes, I could have this thing connected up and running
from the time I started to set up. If you were looking for a piano to
move from your home or apartment to a summer home it would be ideal.
Also it has the MIDI gear as part of the piano for a digitally inclined
person to "make some music". If you wanted to lug the entire unit along
on vacation it would take another 5 minnutes to take the legs and pedals
apart.

By the way, we are looking at selling this unit. It is in perfect shape,
it has less than 100 hours of play on it and was taken care of and loved
dearly. If you are interested in a good piano and wouldn't mind a used
one, send us an email at even...@internetpro.net

Hope this helps, not all electronic piano's are a bear to set up.
