I'm a church organist and pianist-I've been getting requests to
play for private parties, sometimes restaurants, and even dance
studios.

This is a different music setting for me. I was wondering what
the usual fees for doing this sort of thing are.

For example what are some suggested rates for playing two hours
for a Christmas or other party. What are suggested fees for
accompanying singers for pop performances at local hotels and
such.

Any thoughts or suggestions are welcomed. I realize fees will
vary depending on market areas, I'm located in Virginia in a
marjor metropolitan area if this helps.

Thanks.

Hi, Harris, good question and tough to answer. I am in a similar area,
and I charge more than most. On the other hand, church gigs pay the
best! Anyway, if the instrument is provided most players in this area
start at $100. It makes a nice round number. Prices tend to be a bit
low because there are so many musicians available in the area,
especially with the military bands. For your info, I charge $150 for
the first hour and then negotiate from there on additional time. I am
the most expensive I know of, and frankly I don't want to work a lot.
