Carole:

Depending on your region I don't think that $7,000 will buy you much in
the way of a used Yamaha or Kawai. You might be able to find a "grey
market" job, but will be hard pressed to find a good one (at least in
this neck of the woods). You should be able to find a close to new
Korean piano tho. You might even find a new one for that money. You
can consider new Samick SG172/185, Young Chang G175/185, or Kohler &
Campbell SKG600/700 that may fall fairly close to your price range.
There are several other names (Weber, Knabe) that are built either by
Samick or Young Chang. FWIW the Kohler is built and distributed by
Samick. I wouldn't be thinking Yamaha or Kawai ~6' pianos unless you
can stretch your budget another $4,000, otherwise you probably would be
throwing your money at a basket case.

Good Luck!

I like the the Yamaha C series, which is good but seems to be fairly pricy.
I also really like the Kawai grands...I have a fairly new 6'1'' Kawai Grand
which I love dearly, also fairly pricy where I'm coming from. I do not like
the Young Chang pianos at all. In my opinion they are vastly
inferior...almost as bad as Hyundai pianos. They have extremely poor tone
and an annoying action, again, in my opinion. The one big advantage with
the Young Chang pianos is that they are cheap, relatively speaking.

Hope this helps.

Fairly soon I intend buying a Yamaha S4 or 6 model. In the past I tuned
a number of S400's (the predecessor model)and was highly impressed with
the action and tone. Not many are made and due to the extent of
handbuilt craftsmanship evident in the production, they're rather
pricey.

So I'm curious about other's experiences and opinions about this model.
