I'm planning to buy a portable electronic piano, and from the spec I've
seen on paper, it will have to be either a Yamaha PF85, or Roland EP9.

It's a long way to the nearest shop that stocks both of them, so I'd
like to be able to decide between them in one visit.

If anyone has any experience of these, it would help me to know what to
look/listen for. In particular, I'd like to know which one feels and
sounds most like a 'real' piano (I realise of course that neither of
them would be quite like the real thing).

I'd appreciate any comments, posted or emailed. Thanks.

The EP9 is a very poor digital. Consider the Roland FP8or RD 500, as they
are the compliment pieces to the Yamaha PF85. A Note that the PF85 is
several years older than the Rolands

What the EP9 is good for is portability. It's only about 20 pounds
and can be tucked right under your arm. For a full 88 note keyboard,
that's not bad. The action is bad though.

The action is bad on the EP9, but the speakers are worse. Crank it up and
play something hard - el' distorto
