I just bought Yamaha's GT2 digital baby grand.It was a right choice I
think, but there are 2 problems: When it's turned on, a noise is
hearable under the lid.You can only hear,if you put your head under the
lid,or, when is very quiet in the room and don't play.It depends not on
speaker, because if the volume is max or min it's still the same
noise. There is no noise if the headphones are connected. It's like FM
radio without any station - just noise. Is it normal? Can you hear
anything under the lid, when is the piano turned on??I think not??
Second problem: with this noise, in similar situations (if turned on,
not depend on volume, goes away when headphones are connected) a very
very high and very quite voice is hearable - like this thing "frighten
away"against mosquitos = about 20 000 Hz - not all people can hear
it.It's so disturb.

Many thanks for any response

Best regards
Jeri

And 'not' being at all facetious here --- is there a warranty? I think
you essentially answered your own question in re "I just bought ... "
and "there are two problems."

It 'sounds' like something is amiss in the digital amp section but I am
hardly any authority on these things 'BUT' 'if' there is a warranty, I
would immediately make the noted problems a matter of record and go from
there. This too and I don't think it's a case of apples vs oranges [or
digital 'model' differences], of those digitals I've seen from the ones
that go on X-leg stands to, in fact, the so termed 'baby grands' [I
believe the GT-2 weighs in at something like 280 pounds, yes?], anyway,
of those possessing internal speakers and amps, I don't recall any
'noises' or 'hums' of whatever pitch and frequency being audible and the
fact that it's canceled out the moment you plug in the phones [although
audible with phones] strongly suggests it's in the amp section.

IF , in fact, you have a warranty, don't delay in contacting the vendor
because the longer you delay, the more the vendor may do the old 'it was
perfect when it left here' thing and then, you, the purchaser, are
suddenly the one who has to try and 'prove' it was not anything 'you'
did! That has happened too!

On this theme: When buying an acoustic or a heavy 'has to be delivered'
digital, watch what you sign! 'Some' vendors have a caveat that yes they
will [read: they have to!] make good on problems during the warranty
period BUT 'some' will 'charge' you a hefty fee for picking it up and
redelivering it or a replacement piano claiming that 'time, personnel,
labor, vehicle, etc. etc.' is NOT "in fairness" part of the piano "parts
and labor to install those warranted parts" PER SE warranty and suddenly
you're presented with a $150-$200 pick up and return fee [or more
depending on your geography!] for the heavy stuff! Watch what you agree
to in that 'fine print' paperwork! I've even seen cases where the
PURCHASER is asked, 'do you want to purchase mover insurance' -- !!!.
Ohhh yes! Differences of 'fine print' abound! So do vendors! Pianos
or anything else!

Hi Jeri,
I also just bought the GT2 (delivered on october 13th) and it seemes I
have the same problems as you are having.
Especially the high pitch sound that you can hear continously, is
annoying to me. The fun of playing is somewhat diminished...

I already have contacted my supplier and they have send someone to
check the piano.
The technician has taken apart all of the wiring, but could not find
the problem.
One thing that bugged me, was that they send someone who couldn't hear
the high pitch sound anymore, because of old age.....

So now I need to recontact my supplier and see what happens next...

I haven't tried the piano with headphones yet, but surely you should be
able to enjoy the piano without them....? :)

Let me know when they have succeeded fixing your GT2. (Ofcourse I will
keep you up to date on my progression..)
