Very good, very rare, very expensive. But ... the IBACH (without the RUD )
is made in Korea (not cheap either). The Rud Ibach Sohn is still made in
Germany.

This was allegedly Richard Wagner's favourite instrument, though that
would have been a grand. I don't think Ibach grands have been made since
the fifties.

AIUI, Ibach-sohn uprights are still made in very small numbers in
Germany. I saw one in a music store about five years ago and it was (a)
fairly ordinary, not even up to the British Welmar next to it and (b)
=L=5400 or about $8600. It had the same logo on as my own 1927 upright,
which rather tickled me - but that isn't perfect either, having wolf
notes at the divide. If someone said to me they had a 1920s Ibach grand,
I would be curious enough to go and listen to it. As with a Kapp or a
Feurich or a Schiedmayer, you can get some pleasant surprises.

Incorrect. German Ibach grands are still built, and are fantastic pianos. They
are still built by the Ibach family. Christian Ibach runs the company now. I
have met him many times, and one of my favorite grands is a 6+ foot model that
was built around 1995.

Can't say about their verticals, but I cannot imagine anyone building a grand
piano as great as Ibach and then turning out a crappy vertical.

Greetings,

Ibach has the claim of being the world's oldest manufacturer of pianos and
although smaller than Steinway, Bechstein or Bluethner, it is one of the
finest in Germany. During the 90's, the Korean Daewoo corp. owned a 35%
interest in Ibach, and some of the pianos sold under the name Ibach (K-Line)
were manufactured in Korea. This "cooperation" has been terminated so that
all Ibach-brand pianos are presently produced in Germany.

I found a German price list in Euros here:

http://www.deukerpiano.de/Ibach_Preisex.html

The prices range from Euro 6K for a 114 cm Korean-made upright to Euro 49K
for a 240 cm german-made concert grand.

Note that the K-Line (Korean) upright is only 2/3 the price of the
german-made Ibach of the same size.

Find out more here:

http://www.ibach.de/

Edvard

Greetings,

I had a small Ibach grand in my teaching room for years, but it was always
slightly out of tune (loose pins) and way out of regulation (loose keys with
extreme key-dip). I have the feeling that there was a nice sounding piano in
there, but it was severely handicapped by the lack of maintainance. I
believe the conservatory junked (or sold) it as there is a 80 years younger
C3 in there now.

Regards,

Edvard

I have an Rud Ibach Sohn birdcage upright piano, dating according to family lore, from 1907. It is in good playable condition. Does anyone have an idea what this piano would be worth? Thanks.
