We just bought a PX 103 model Technics and are delighted
with it. I have problems with arthritis and have trouble with
grands that have heavy actions. I don't care for uprights. We
have very little room for a piano (we build harpsichords and have
to stack them up occasionaly.) We particularly like the action
adjustment, and the headphones. I feel that the "rock" voice
setting is much like a fortepiano sound and is great for Mozart
and Haydn et al. using the "light" action setting, and a very
precise touch.

Alas, the "harpsichord" voice setting is appallingly bad - sounds
more like a thumb harp (But then I usually have an actual
harpsichord at hand anyway.) :)

Buy it!

I find it very validating to hear such high praise of a digital piano
from a craftsman who produces acoustic instruments. You hear so much
flak disparaging digital pianos from people in this group. Of course,
few of them have played any recent model digital instruments. Whereas
they aren't perfect emulations of acoustic pianos (yet), I'd rather
play the grand piano voice of my digital than play 80% of the upright
pianos on the market.

I agree with your assessment of the PX-103's harpsichord voice: my old,
much cheaper, Yamaha keyboard had a more credible set of harpsichord
samples. I personally don't like any of the PX-103's (or PX-107's, which
I own) miscellaneous instrument voices. But I didn't buy it for them.
I bought it for its great keyboard feel and response and its rich grand
piano samples, and the fact that I can move it with relative ease, and
practice silently. If I want other instrument sounds, I can hook it up to
another MIDI device (which I plan to do--I've ordered a Yamaha DOU-10).

Hi! I am a proud owner of a technics digital piano and I do have pros and cons
about it. The Pro is that Technics makes excellent pianos that feel and sound
exactlly like a real piano, like the one I have except at this time I don't
remember the model but it sells for about 3,000, which leads to the con that
they are too expensive and Technics is always coming out with an extension that
gives it more power or instruments but all in all it is worth buying and will
last with you forever, and it's not like you need those extensions anyways. The
point is is that you can trust Technics with great sound, feel, and
reliability!
