I appreciate all the responses to my posts about my search for a good
value grand and the search continues. What does anyone know about the
manufacturer Howard Vincent? Apparently the 6 foot grand I am
considering was manufactured in the 1920's in Philadelphia. A
rebuilder in the Philadelphia has offered it for sale after a fairly
extensive rebuild (new strings, dampers, pins, etc.) for $4900.
Since his location is quite a drive for me, I thought I would solicit
comments from this very knowledgeable NG before making the trip. He
said it was in beautiful condition both inside and out. Any info on
Howard Vincent would be greatly appreciated..

Joe,

Keep looking. This time you have the size bracketed. Now go for a quality
name. Your clue that this rebuilder is less than top notch is that he
would waste time and money on a no-name Chicago built 1920's grand.

Just so everyone knows, the rebuilder is NOT Cunningham Piano Co. - and Joe, a
Howard Vincent piano was an inexpensive piano when it was built. I would not
buy one for 4900.00.

Joe, I'm obviously late in the game here. I currently have a Howard Vincent upright that is in GREAT shape considering it was manufactured in 1873, in Philadelphia, where his 1st shop was located. Been trying to get a value on my piano, what makes mine particularly unique is the inspection label signed off by Howard Vincent himself in his own handwriting.
