On the recommendation of a couple readers here I sought out a piano techique
book by Gyorgy Sandor. It's insanely good, I can't say too many good things
about it. Here's the "review blurb" for it I'm sticking on my Web page
at http://www.engr.unl.edu/eeshop/music.html:

===============
On Piano Playing: Motion, Sound, and Expression
by Gyorgy Sandor
Schirmer Books, NY 1981
ISBN 0-02-872280-9

This remarkable book is perhaps the most outstanding written resource
available to pianists pursuing efficient, effective, pain-free technique
on their instrument. In a little over 200 pages, Sandor provides an
exceptionally thorough and readable analysis of piano playing with ample
diagrams, photographs, and musical samples. At every turn he displays
a detailed understanding of human physiology and the means to use it
to produce musical effect without excess strain and effort. Very
impressive, it's a "must-read".
