Hello...
I have always had a desire to play Debussy's "Hommage a Rameau" from
his first set of Images and I think I'm not going to give it a try.
I'm curious to hear from othe pianists who have played it. Just how
difficult is it? I've played a number of easier Debussy works
including the complete Suite Bergamasque, Deux Arabesques, Reverie
and 'Girl with the Flaxen Hair' and I think I can manage "Hommage".
Is it significantly more difficult than Bergamasque? If so, I may not
be ready. What do you think???
Rich
If you've mastered Suite Bergamasque, you'll manage Hommage a Rameau.
Reverie, technically, is one of Debussy's easier pieces, but not easy.
The Two Arabesques not so easy. Enjoy.

I suppose I should admit that I managed the first three movements of
the Suite Bergamasque but found Passapied extremely difficult and
could never play it up to proper speed -- but I managed to get through
it. "Hommage to Rameau" doesn't appear to have any really tricky
finger work and I can play it slow! I appreciate your encouragement.
I don't know if I'll be able to play "Reflections in the Water" and
"Mouvement" as I think they, like 'Passapied', require a little
dexterity than I can currently manage but we'll see.
At the same time I'm working on the slow movement of Bax's Fourth
Piano Sonata -- which is gorgeous and not nearly as difficult as most
of Bax's piano music. Previously I've played "Sleep Head" and
"Lullaby" -- both very challenging but so fun and beautiful to play.
I recommend those works or the Fourth Sonata for anyone interested in
music a little off the beaten track.

Thou art not alone. I give it the Passepied a shot every so often and
bog down about half way. Oh, well, it sets dh to whistling the tune
thereafter.

If Key of B doesn't scare ya, give it a go. I bog down very soon on
this one. I haven't the patience to learn to deal with all the
accidentals. I would dearly love to play "En Bateau" fairly well. I
can almost get thru "La plus que Lente" sans music, but it's been a
struggle. The old brain and fingers aren't cooperating. I will NEVER
even begin to think of attempting "Feuilles Mortes".
