In addition to what Mike wrote regarding changes from KG-2A to RX-2, there
are some other differences:
- The scale has been altered a little
- The soundboard scaling has been changed
- The plate has been beefed up (thicker, one extra strut), and now connects
to the beams down between the strings in the traditional way.
- The inner rim is made entirely of hard Matoa.
- The hammers a lower in mass and a little softer.
- The hammer shanks were changed from Maple to Hornbeam for reasons of tone
production
- There is more ABS material in the action
- The fallboard damper is improved (Soft-Fall mechanism)
- The music rack is over-coated with a hard, scratch resistant material
There are more small things that you can read about at our WWW site. Sorry
there isn't any model information there - soon, I hope!

There are no plans for an EX series of pianos. That designation is for the
concert grand only.

I just bought RX-2 for a half year, but I am frustrated with the dull with
wooden action sound. My technician told me that is new opened from wooden
box, it needs time to adjust the humidty. Is it right? I wish I can play
Mozart with a beautiful tone color in the high register, especially,
Chopin's noctorne usually shows the technical skill in fast passages of
scale and arpeggio. The dull sound and wooden action sound always bother me.
I am going to buy another piano , and sell the old one if it still sounds
like that. Does anyone who can give me advise for purchase a new piano?
Kawai RX-2 actually is a very good choice in its price range. I like it
better than the Yamaha C2. However the C3 is a different story, based on
my limited experience I feel the C3 is a lot better. You may want to
try the C3. Also if beautiful high register is your most important
preference I suggest you look at the Schimmel. Both 5'10" and 6'10" Schimmel
I tried two years ago were wonderful pianos with very impressive bell
like high register. (For people don't like "bright" pianos: no I am not
talking about the annoying brightness some cheaper pianos usually have.
I am talking about bell like beautiful tones).
Good luck.
