Gram-Richtsteig

I know this is a very long shot, but my great grandfather used to be a piano
maker in Milwaukee (Turn of the century). The brand name was
Gram-Richtsteig. I think the chances of finding anyone with knowledge of
this piano is slim to none but I am trying all the same. If you have any
info I would greatly appreciate it.

Unfortunately I don't have the book around any more, but in a book written by
Alfred Dolge, and reprinted in the 1980s as "Men Who Have Made Piano History"
(Vestal Press) there is a page or two on the company. A large library may have
a copy.

As I recall they made their own upright actions, which used brass Billings type
flanges for the jack and all the other flanges. Novel, and probably a
pain-in-the to find parts for now.

If you ask tuners and piano stores around Milwaukee you will probably come up
with an actual piano.

I have a Gram-Richtsteig that I'm looking to sell. It could have been a player piano, but there is no player in it now. I'm in the Seattle area. I've been looking at the history for fun and find it fascinating. The upright has a Guaranteed label inside with the dates 1883 and 1906, so I'm thinking it's in the earlier days. The front of the piano only has the name Richtsteig, but the inside metal panel reads "Gram-Richtsteig". Even if you don't want to buy it, I'd be glad to send you pictures.
