I would like to seek opinion on buying a new Upright. Is Kawai CX-21H
better or CX-21D or Yamaha U1 better? Any big difference between them?
CX-21H is 127cm tall but its width is only 54cm, and CX-21D is 122cm
tall but it's wider, 57cm
Could anyone give me some comments that which one should I choose then?
what's the difference between their sound?
Thanks!

Hi Carmen (my mother's name:-)
the Kawai CX-21 is loaded with plastic action parts and is poorly builded.
Its front legs are made of empty alluminum!, wich will lead soon or later
to mechanical noise while playing. To check it out, knock on the legs with
your knails and you will recognise the sound of metal. If you like the
American piano sound, then you might like the Kawai's sound for it have the
same *confuse* or *loud noisy* sound as the American type. I personnally
hate that sound, but you be the judge on that (the sound). Be sure to
compare the two pianos while they are well tuned because that *confuse*
sound I'm referring to in the Kawai make the piano sound as if it is
somewhat out of tune. It doesn't show as much when it is tuned as where
the Yamaha U1 will really surprise you when it is tuned. The Yamaha U1 is
much better built and has only two minor parts of the action that are made
of plastic 9the escape jack and the escape button). The sound of the
Yamaha U1 is *sublime* if you like to clearly hear the specific overtones
characteristic sound of the piano. It is a very equal and smooth overall
sounding piano (excuse my english), you wont be able to distinguish between
the different sections, as you go over different bridges sections. Kawai
is still better than a same priced American piano but theYamaha is 50%
better than Kawai for the same price.

Good luck Carmen

Note to techs from this NG:
I won't answear any sarcastic comments on this post of mine:-(
Just let me say my opinion!

Don't be misled by misinformed tuners that don't know the difference between
ABS Styrene and plastic. Kawai is one of the best builders and has found
that ABS Styrene on some action parts will outperform and outlast wood.
This subject has been beaten to death on old threads in this forum.

Let me just say that Mario has a tremendously inflated opinion of Yamaha that
is NOT shared by the majority of techs anywhere including on this ng. ;-))

Mario may not respond to sarcastic comments on his post, but could he at least
use a grammar and spell checker?

Choice in building materials is interesting, but what is wrong with empty
aluminum? Should they be cast iron, or is wood the only legitimate building
material for a piano?

Jan, who do you think you are to tell me, the one that's doing an effort to write
in your language when I already said English is not my mother tongue? Do you think
everybody on earth speaks English? You should respect my effort to participate in
this NG even though I have a problem with my english writing.I receive a lot of
private email from people who read the posts in this NG begging me not to publish
their letter because of attitude like yours. Next time you want to participate in
this NG, think before opening your computer.

I've check with those empty aluminum legs and they produce a very anoying sound
when knocked. And if they ever get loose, some mechanical vibrations might well
occur as wood wouldn't react the same way.
