I am going to take some piano course and learn to play piano. After
shopping around, I found a Kawai CX-10, 44" at promotion price $2999.
Is this a good buy? How's its quality compare to CX-5H? (I read
Larry's book, and knew CX-5H is not a good choice.) and anyone has
experience with Berhard Steiney BC-042 ?
I appreciate in advance for any advice and comments! thank you so
much!

I don't know this model, but a new Kawai upright of this height must be
more expensive. Also, if you read Larry Fine's book, you probably
noticed what he is writing about "promotional" models . A Yamaha GP1, a
promotional model, makes the Yamaha people blush (of shame) . The legend
says one senior at YAMAHA, Kozo Yamamato, performed harakiry when this
model was released. Promotional pianos are the "dead stock" of
retailers. They serve as a mean to attract people into the shop ("at
prices like this I can afford a piano for myself").

Welcome to the hell of piano shopping.

Jenny,

The CX-10 is a different scale design, with longer strings and a taller back
structure. It is also more substantial in construction than the CX-5H.
Those who have tuned and played both will tell you right away that the CX-10
is a better choice.

Bernhard Steiner is a Samick. While that might be close call to the
CX5H it doesn't even come close to the CX10.
