Can anyone direct me to a midi
file or have a pdf of the
musical score for the "magic waltz" from the movie "legend of 1900". I
believe by this time the copyright has run out.

thanks

Jim

I don't know if it's in print, but I can be reasonably certain that
it's under current copyright, having been written in 1998.

I do not believe that it was written in 1998.
I've been seeing posts indicating the music was
written in the early part of the century.

Then you should ask for more information from people who posted that
opinion. The movie credits don't list it as a "found" composition, so I
conclude it was written for the movie. I'd be delighted to learn
otherwise.

As a result of comments by posters here I bought the DVD and
have been thoroughly enjoying it. I too wondered about the waltz.
The DVD is very vague on music credits. But I found this site:
www1.neweb.ne.jp/wa/sonoro/pianist.html
which lists the playlist and credits from the import CD version
(which is noted as being the most complete by a reviewer on
Amazon). Below the list, note Amedeo Tommasi gets sole
credit for the waltz (cut #27). I guess I'll need to get
this import CD so I know exactly what I'm hearing. -- Marsha

It's a wonderful song! I found a MIDI and used
PowerTracks Pro Audio to generate sheet music.
PHEW!!! This is one that I took a look at and
them promptly filed it under, "Maybe someday
far far in the misty future..." <G> I pull it out
and give it a whirl every now and then. It's very
humbling. Who was the actual pianist? The
songs, "Danny's Blues," and, "Playing Love," are
wonderful as well. :)

Its in the post, near the bottom. It shows 2 pianist
and their credits by number.

Since I couldn't find a .wav or .mp3 sample of 'Playing Love'
(sorry, I detest midi) I was unsure which piece that was.
Is that the one he plays during the recording session as
he watches the girl? That is indeed beautiful.

As to your generated sheet music of the waltz, I'd be
interested in seeing that because just picking out the
melody/chord progression it didn't seem to hard to me,
even after one would realize the waltz bass. I sometimes
wonder about those music generators. If they produce
results anything like my cheap notation software produces
a score from keyboard midi input, I suspect it looks
considerably more difficult than it really is.

Hrmmmm... I'll have to go back and look. If the rest of
their work is anything like what was played in "LO1900,"
I'd definitely buy their CD's!

That's the one! MIDI through a soundcard sucks, but
you can manipulate it with Cakewalk or Powertracks Pro
Audio, or play it through a MIDI compatible piano and
it sounds wonderful. It's like having a player piano.

You may be right. PowerTracks Pro Audio is only 30-40 bucks,
and if you want the MIDI, I'll send it to you, or better yet,
contact me off-list and I'll mail you a copy of the
PPA-generated sheet music.
