My husband and I are would be purchasers of a digital piano and have
been looking for well over a month at models from Technics, Yamaha and
more recently Kurzweil. I've seen opinions voiced against the Mark 10,
specifically regarding general MIDI compatibility, but wonder if these
are addressed in the Mark 12.

In the same price range ($5000-$6000 Cdn), we are considering the Yamaha
CLP-555, and the newest Technics PX-228B. They all offer a reasonable
piano touch and sound, good speaker system and a nice cabinet. In the
Kurzweil's favour is a few hundred more sounds, a 16 track sequencer
plus a lot more extras, not the least of which is firmware upgrade
capability.

As I haven't yet seen these models discussed, I'm wondering if anyone
has any opinions. Also, we are sitting on the fence as to whether we
simply want a good digital piano or a more versatile MIDI instrument. Is
the Mark 12 a good compromise without having to go the route of adding
MIDI module at a later date?

Thanks for any feedback.

Absolutely it is. With the software update capability a lot of strength is
added to the Mark 12. Also, the other two models you mentioned, particularly
the Technics are good. But IMHO, the sonic presence of the Mark 12 is simply
better.

Good Luck

By the same token, I would look at the Roland KR-570 or 770 and the Clavinova
CVP-95 & 98 before I spent that kind of money. I was impressed with the Mark 12
until I had a chance to compare it with the Rolands and Yamahas. They seem to
be much more user friendly than the Kruzweil, too.
