how is it that mike stern still looks like he is a teenager?
IF you want to hear the king of playing over the bar line and
stretching time, listen to Jack DeJohnette. Jack is the heaviest Jazz
guy out there and has been for years. You don't get the Keith Jarrett
gig by sucking! :-)

BTW, Vinnie also makes Dennis look like a child when it comes to
playing across bar lines. Don't get me wrong, Dennis is a monster, but
Jack and Vinnie are in a different league.

Child may be a bit rough, but I agree. Listen to Karizma then listen to
Niacin and it's pretty clear, but like you I am not taking anything
away from Chambers or Niacin at all. They're all great players, and
better than me and most of the musicians I know.

Dunno about the Niacin stuff but listen to the 2003 album Front Page
(Bireli Lagrene), track 3, and the opening of track 13 in particular, or
the old Blue Matter track with Scofield. He's just got the greasiest
and tightest grooves I've heard anybody play...
Vinnie can do the most outragous stuff of them all, but Dennis beats him
on grease! :o)
