anyone have experience on this kit? i've played small
drums (10 & 13 toms, 16 bass, 10 snare) by noble & cooley,
but these have actually been customised kids drums.
sonor jungles seemed a lot more heavier in built and
actually are of the same size. so i was wondering if anyone has
had a close encounter with this kit, i hear that some people
are using the snare as piccolo.

so, anyone ???

On the orignal kit (matte finishes), the kick and toms are GREAT. They are some
of the last German-made Sonors. They simply sound huge, even with the stock
heads. The snare, for all intesnts and purposes, is useless. I don't have an
experience with the new version, but there are many left in dealer stock.

Hi Dan,
I had a Sonor Jungle kit, and they are fabulous (for what they're intended)
for jazz. The snare drum is useless, by the way. But the 16" bass drum and
toms sound terrific. Truly. Of course I wouldn't use these in a Metallica
cover band.
My only complaint was with the little gizmo that you attach your BD pedal
to - it shouldn't be held in place with a wing nut - it should have been
designed a bit better and more securely. Hear that, Sonor?
(The reason I say HAD a set is that I gave mine to a dear friend who really
scrounges and had NO kit to play at all. Otherwise, I'd still have mine).

Useless snare eh?

guess what i use most when playing drum 'n bass? The producer duo i work
woth just loves the little jingle snaredrum. The Jungle kit was never
intended for playing Jazz, it was intended for playing dance, jungle, triphop
kinds of music. And that's what it really does best, including the
snaredrum...

grtz!

OK, I bow to your knowledge there. Even more reason to recommend these
Sonor Jungle drums, then. I first saw them played by Jack DeJohnette at the
Modern Drummer Festival Weekend a coupla years back, and they were explosive
little (jazzy) suckers.

I have to disagree with the statement on the skins...

Most all of my Sonic Plus stuff came with
Remo Unicorn heads, which is the poorest
excuse for a skin that I've EVER seen!

In the past, Steve Smith has used Jungle Kits
for clinic work. ...but he ditched the kick
mounted cymbal arm and used a Designer snare.

Granted, the cymbal needs a CAW-56 (counterweight).

The kit consisted of:

09x10" Tom
12x13" Tom
16x16" Kick
05x14" Snare (S-Class Pro brass with die-cast hoops)

Thay are standard production tubs, just in smaller
shell sizes.

Not the new 3001...

If you can find the origional Sonic Plus (not +II)
you'll have a nice kit. They were 9 pli 100% birch
shells. Bith the shell and hardware were made in
Gremany.

As far as the 2 1/2 x 10 Jingle Snare...
I have mine cranked, put an ISS mount with a
SONOR recieving mount on it and have it clamped
close to my hi-hat / x-hat...

Yes, they do ship with coated ambassador unicorns. Though they are not great
heads, the drums sounded great, to me. I think i's a testament to the quality
when the drum sounds good out of the box, especially with crappy heads.

I cut Sonic Plus 12" tom in half and put a strainer and snares on it.
Sounds EXACTLY like a drum n' bass DJ

If you guys want a similar kit for less money and better sound, check out
Yamaha's new Manu Katche kit. These things sound incredible and you can get them
for around $500.00.
