After getting much amusement following the "Bozzio is God...No he
isn't" thread, I was curious as to the opinions of drummer Sean Kinney
(w/ Alice in Chains). AIC is easily in my top 5 favorite bands of the
last 20 years - and I definately dig the stuff SK does. (Listening to
"Frogs" as I type this)

Personally, AIC is my absolute favorite band that came from the whole
90's "grunge" thing. I think Sean is a good player although I do
hear alot of squirrelly time issues in alot of the stuff he does.
Some of his fills got pretty loose at times. AIC was a monster band
that was made up of a great combination of people (especially Layne
Staley and Jerry Cantrell) but I don't see Sean as being a drummer's
drummer. Sometimes guys get alot of props as individual players
because of the bands they're in. I think Sean is one of those guys.
I love what he did in that band and I'm willing to overlook the
inconsistencies BECAUSE of the whole sound and vibe of the band which
he was part of. But I wouldn't put him on this crazy list of "Top 5"
guys and I'm sure HE wouldn't feel like he should be on it either. I
think he'd be flattered sure, but I don't think he'd accept the
accolade......that's just my opinion. We all know what we can do.
If someone was a big fan of mine and wanted my name on it, I'd have
to respectfully decline. Thanks for the support but I KNOW I'm not
worthy of inclusion.

I think he plays exactly what's needed...no more, no less. He has
great feel and great time. One of my favorite rock players.

I wasn't looking at inclusing in the infamous "top 5" list. I just
like what he does and do love the band. As far as the squirrelly stuff
- I think that's why I like his style so much. I've always liked the
'right on the verge of flying apart' sound. I do that too - just not
on purpose most of the time ;).
