Hey all. I'm looking for some examples of bands that used the "jew"
sounding electronic drums in the 80s. I'm not much of an 80s fan, so I
don't know where to start. I'm sure there's a few that made major use of
them, and i'm sure someone knows who they are lol.

Thanks!

Gabe

Actually I believe he was using the PPG wave keyboard with Simmons samples.

What about "She Blinded Me With Science" by Thomas Dolby. Great
fucking tune. One that I've never played in a band, (and i've played
LOTS of songs)

Absolutely. The first 2 cds were him experimenting with the PPG and using
the Simmons sounds. The Flat Earth is a big fav of mine.

This was probably suggested already but.....Get anything by Bill Bruford after
1980. My favorite is "Cloud About Mercury" by David Torn with Bill on Simmons
and acoustic drums. It is a masterpiece of edrumming. Also check out "3 of a
Perfect Pair" by King Crimson. His stuff with Earthworks is also electronic and
intresting.

There was a one hit wonder 80's band like "Naked Eyes" or "ABC" or "The
Human League" or something like that that had a big hit with a tune
called " Always Something There To Remind Me". It had this little
Simmons tom fill lick in the choruses that was so up front, it was a
huge part of the hook of the whole tune.

Naked Eyes did that, showing that long before it was retro-cool,
artists respected the great Burt Bacharach. Elvis Costello used to do
"I Just Don't Know What To Do With Myself" well before he officially
collaborated with Burt, and Love's version of "My Little Red Book" was
concurrent with Burt's reign in the 60s.
