Actually, it rhymes with "Paiste."

Neither - it ryhmes with "ear", and sounds like Peeert.
Apparently when Rush was touring, the crew would leave Pert shampoo
bottles at Neil's hotel door just to mess with him! He was sorta
sensitive about the pronunciation of his name, and very impressed with
anyone who actually got it right!
Now, how do you pronounce Carmine Appice's first and last names?!
How about Doane Perry?

Vinnie (and Carmine) Appice's last name is pronounced AP-i-SEE.
I would assume Doane Perry's name is DOE-ann PEAR-ee. Right? (Saw Jethro
Tull at the Rose Garden Ampitheater last summer and was completely blown
away ? they played 'Songs from the Wood' WOO-HOO!)
What about Jack Dejohnette? (Dijon -like the mustard, - ET?)
Manu Katche? ? MAN-oo Catch-AYE??
Omar Hakim ? OH-mar Hock-EEM?
Any others??
Let me take a shot at this one.... first name is pronounced as spelled....
"car-mine", last name is pronounced "a piz ee" with the accent on the first
syl., but not a long A, as in APE iz ee.
Close?

It's actually pronounced DOAN, rhymes with phone.
>Omar Hakim ? OH-mar Hock-EEM?
Probably HOCK-em if it's a true middle-eastern derived name.

Should be one syllable though.
That combination of e & a in words has many sounds:
earth
heart
read
head
ear
teat
Interesting....hmmm?
Trilo Gurtu...TRI-lok GUHR-too
Carter Beauford..BO-furd
Billy Cobham...COB'm
Bonzo...BOHN'm
And then there's Chad Smith... tricky one
