I need long drum sticks. I'm using 5B (or is it 2B) now. I'm
guessing these alpha-numerics are a standard sizing thing? What's the
longest size available?

Thanks,

just a little story

I saw a apair of 3 foot long ornamental sticks about 4cm or so round.
The guy at the music store said he bought a pair for his son in law for
a wedding present or something.
The guy mounted his sticks on the roof above his(and her) bed. And
needless to say a few weeks later the things fell down and he was
knocked unconcious and taken to hospital.
The old guy was in fits of laughter telling me about it.

Those would be the Bun E. Carlos Pro Mark specials I saw at the shop
recently. I actually saw him use a pair once during a solo years ago when
he was with Cheap Trick. Played pretty good with 'em, too, if you ask
me...

Hi Steve
You didn't mention WHY you needed a longer stick. The 5b or
2B designation is a relative thickness (an A would generally
be thinner). Most of the very long sticks are marching
related or at the very least beefy sticks for snare drum
work. Pro mark makes the TX444 at 17.5" in lenghth.
Promark's DC marching series are all 17" except for the DC9
(16.25 and DC10 @15.5).
Zildjian's ZROCK are 16.25";Vater has the 3S at 17.25 as
well as the NIghtstick also at 17.25". Regaltip has the
17.5 Quanum 9000;Silver Fox has their marching series
1s,2s,3s,4s,and 1001 all at 17"
I'm not sure if these sticks meet your application.
I would suggest you hop into your local music store and
spend 30 minutes going through their stick selection.
Most sticks designed for set are around 16" or so.
If you like a longer stick, you can do what Gadd and Weckl
do and that is to hold the stick closer to the butt end.
Hope that helps
Cary

Try the Alex Van Halen signature by Vic Firth. Long, and very similar to
the diameter of a 5B

The Regal Tip Alex Van Halen is over 17" long! It is like a 3a thickness. I
too like a longer stick and have been playing the Vic Firth Extreme 5b. See
ya, Mike Carter
