Has anyone seen him live, or watched the Growing Up DVD? What do you think?

I have to admit: I was comparing him against Manu all the time when I first
heard him, which wasn't fair... they're very different drummers. I think
Gabriel's music leans towards more ornamental drumming, but Ged does a
pretty fine job.

I thought he did a good job, played the tunes more straight ahead than say
Jerry Marotta or Manu did or would live. I was skeptical and did not go see
the tour, but bought the DVD and really like it. Blind Boys of Alabama kick.

You're right: the Blind Boys were amazing! I thought Richard Evans' whistle
playing during Mercy Street was really beautiful as well.

Grando gave me the DVD for my b-day and we just checked it out a few
days ago. I must admit I'm kinda used to hearing Gabriel's stuff
with all that classic "esoteric" type drumming that Jerry Marotta and
Manu do. Lynch strikes me as a much more straight ahead rock
drummer-very backbeat oriented, with the standard drummer thing going
on. I kinda missed alot of those cool odd Manu things that added so
much to the vibe but I think he did a fine job nonetheless. Not bad,
just different. Peter using a guy like him made me think
" Hey! Maybe you don't have to play like Manu to get that gig! Maybe
I still have a shot!!"

I saw the tour, and to be honest he just brought the whole thing down. I saw
the Secret World tour with Manu and he blew me away, and I was expecting him
or Gadd who recorded on Up to do the gig. I'd never heard of Lynch prior to
the tour, but I thought he was terrible. His playing was stiff and lifeless
and he turned Red Rain from a masterpiece into something of a mess,
accenting completely the wrong bits with seemingly random crashes. Shame
really because Gadd's work on Up is great, and between them Manu and
Marrotta come up with some of my favourite grooves on So and Us. Just my
thoughts, but I didn't rate him at all (I haven't seen the DVD yet, so my
comments are merely from the Manchester gig).

I also caught one show on the last tour, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and
thought his style fit quite well. Yes, he certainly is straight
forward, but he reminded me of a freight train coming down the tracks
and nothing could stop it. Very strong groove.

Secret World was a very special moment in music history, imho. If
anyone has not seen the Secret World DVD or heard the CD's then you
are really missing out. I enjoyed the drumming which was amazing, but
on the down side I noticed Manu played things that he heard in his
head, but which were not being played by others in the band, leaving
him kind of hanging 'out there' from time to time. Perhaps a little
overplayed. But amazing just the same.

At least Manu uses his creativity and imagination. He's spontaneous and
expressive in only the most positive of ways- IMHO.

Cheers! Scott Hoffman
Until next time, keep time.

IMO, ged just absolutely sucked in dallas, when gabriel came through. he
mangled the material..trampled all over it. It was a big disappointment. he
actually launched off into a tune at the wrong tempo so badly at one point
towards the end that Gabriel had to stop the tune and start it again..

is ged married to one of gabriel's relatives? the daughter perhaps who is
also on the stage now? gabriel is slipping..i know he has bigger ears than
that..
