Hey, All...

I keep hearing about RIMS mounts by Purecussion (sp?), but I'm having a
hard time finding any info on the web regarding details and pricing.
Does anyone know of a web site that goes into detailed description of
this product? Any help appreciated!

Bry

Are you referring to what used to be called "The RIMS Headset"? This is a
set of what look like rims with heads, (no shells), that use
pretuned/tensioned heads).

Purecussion went out of business and DW took over distribution of RIMS.
Spaun also makes RIMS style mounts. I believe that the pantent on this type
of mount has expired so anyone can now make and sell them.

Thanks for the info! I didn't know that. (I'm located in Ottawa, by the way.
Nice to see a fellow Ontarian around here! Used to have a girl-friend in
London... nice city!) Do you know of any good web sites that give details on
these mounts? (i.e. diagram of how they work, etc? Just interested, as I've
heard a lot of good comments on them...) Thanks for replying!

Bry

Just go to any music store in Ottawa, you will probally find a kit with
RIMS mounts. here is the DW site:
http://www.dwdrums.com/
Go to the Collorlock page. The kit pictured has RIMS mounts.

Spaun uses RIMs, but they don't make them.

The frames of the mounts wrap around the top of the drum and tension rods
go through several holes with isolation rubber grommets thereby suspending
the drum from the hoops mainly. This increases resonance and avoids shell
choking from drilling holes into the shell and attaching a clunky piece of
hardware directly on the drum. The floor tom versions attach to rods on
the bottom head and the legs are mounted on the frame, kind of like a
basket of sorts. Check out http://www.amdrumparts .com for pictures. The
basket type are not pictured but available, and you can get them all in
chrome, black chrome, or brass plating. John

Drum Suspension Mounting System

Ihave used them on my 12 and 13 mounts, and even used one on my 16x16
floor tom thus aloowing me to susped it from a stand. What can I say?
These things totally altered the sound of my cheapo Ludwig Rocker II
kit - my toms sound like high end drums! I got mine at Guitar Center
in Marietta, GA, USA, but the prices listed on the website
aforementioned are actually cheaper. Let me know what you think when
you get them.

Righto! I have 3 RIMS and 4 Taiwanese knock-offs, and they're
indistinguishable.
