A book was written about Jeff a few years ago by a friend of mine, his name
is Takashi Numazawa. The book is intitled Drum Brother. It should be noted
that this book is mostly in Japanese, but has an extensive discography and
some special photos from the Porcaro family.

I believe and could be wrong about this, but I think AudioPhile Imports may
some copies of this book.
Just for the collector or the invaluable discography, it's worth sussing
out.

Great info, Randy. Thanks! I'll have to check that out.

Now, do you know of any good books on learning Japanese?

Since the Toto post, I've done some digging about Jeff's demise. He died on
August 5th 1992. His death was apparently caused by an allergic reaction to
some pesticide he was using in his backyard. This must (I assume) have been an
extremely rare case, and I hope the manufacturers packaging carried a suitable
warning. Nonetheless, Jeff must have been completely unaware that he would
react in such a way to the chemicals.

Moral of the story: Never think tragedy only happens to other people!

"a bizzarre gardening accident"

Actually I had heard that originally but I believe it eventually came out as
an OD on coke.
Am I wrong? Please correct me if I am wrong and I apologize in advance.
See this link

and from another site
Jeff Porcaro, one of the most popular drummers of the 1970s, died in 1992.
He suffered cardiac arrest at the age of only 38, caused by hardening of the
arteries after years of cocaine use. Porcaro played on Silk Degrees, the
breakthrough album by Boz Scaggs in 1976, before forming Toto. Over the
years he would also contribute to such albums as The Wall, Gaucho, The End
of the Innocence, Luck of the Draw and many others.

Unfortunately this would be true. According to the Medical Examiner it was
due to years of excess.

I am going to leave it at that, it's alittle too close to home for me to go
into.

Acoording to Michael Porcaro (in a 1994 interview) it actually was both.
Jeff's body was in such a bad shape after years of cocaine use he couldn't
handle the alergic reaction to the pesticide. Had he been in better shape it
would have been no problem. So it might not be what finished him off, but
the drugs killed him nonetheless

Yes, in that there was no OD involved. Jeff's physical condition from
previous usage was, as the links you post (and some later messages state),
certainly a factor.

Is it possible to find out who publishes this book and ask them to consider
an English version. Bet my kit on it it will at least sell enough to break
even.
Randy, you the guy who wrote it. Can you ask him?

Regards,

George

rittor music mook, RHYTHM&DRUMS MAGAZINE is whom published this book.
everything else is in Japanese. I will speak with Joe about this, when we
got the books we laughed because of it being in Japanese. Taki did not
translate it. Also, I believe Joe may have lost contact awhile with Taki. I
know since he moved back to Japan I have not spoken with him.

Larry Fitzgerald, who was and is Toto's manager, lives here in Nashville
and told me that the allergic reaction story was just that, a story
that mangagement and the family came up with. I would imagine that there
were some insurance issues at stake. IIRC the coroner's report came out
shortly thereafter and stated the cause of death as hardening of the
arteries to to the use of cocaine.
