Seems that there are alot of church drummers around. A nice way to practice
and play regularly IMO. In these parts there isn't the same enthusiasm for
rock bands in churches so these gigs aren't really available. Besides, I
don't really go to church so there's a catch right there eh? I'm looking for
another bunch of has-been thirty or forty-somethings to play with. You
know, jams, the odd gig. Once you get the feel of playing with other warm
bodies it's hard to play along to recorded tracks.
I play on a Pearl/Sabian 5 (sometimes 7 piece) when I can and still have
some good chops but can't seem to get enough practice time. I love the
looks, the sounds, the chrome, everything about a drumset. Always have.
(Check out the last page of the April MD.)
Been lurking and throwing in the odd post since about 98. You guys are

I've got to say RMMP has quickened my interest in drums and drumming. I've

the parade of personalities around here. Thanks one, thanks all.

I played drums from age 13-21, took some time off and played guitar and sang
for a Buffalo-based Dave Matthews Tribute band called Dangerous Hours.
Now that I'm in Guam, I've taken up the drums again and play for an
original/cover group called Gladhands. 3-4gigs per week on the drums.
Also play guitar every Monday at a bar called Casa Nami. Great
website!!!www.casanami.com An acoustic duo, mostly DMB and originals.
I love gigging regularly on two different instruments. Keeps people
saying,,,"Wait, doesn't he play the......." Yep, that's me.
I currently play Pearl ELX's (you take what you can get here on Guam), but
have a nice pearl rack, wonderful Zildjians, and a couple of nice snares,
thanks to EBAY.

When I was in primary school I had a friend and we were both into drums. We
parted ways and I gave up drums and did the study thing and got my university
degree and now work in the computing field. Seven years ago a female friend
lent me her kit for a week when she found out I used to play. Well I got hooked
and when she wanted her kit back I went and bought my own. I'm now in two bands
(one cover and one original) and just love to play gigs for the fun of it. I
don't do it for the money and I'd quite happily play for free. When I do get
paid though, I *always* spend the money and something fun - never a bill.
Met up with my primary school friend a year ago. He'd became a professional
drummer, moved to the big smoke and played in front of some stadium sized
crowds. He's a shit hot drummer and is ten times as good as I'll ever be. I'm
totally envious of some of his experiences. He's now moved back to the quiet
lands and plays most nights at local pubs and clubs.
When we met up again and compared notes he looked at me and said:
"I wish I'd done it your way."

I'm strictly a hobbyist drummer but currently I am playing 4-10 nights
a month with Copperpot, a jam rock/jazz band that's been together
close to a year; also not currently gigging but writing songs for a
second CD with 8 Miles Down, an acoustic rock band that usually gigs
regionally and has been together almost five years; also recording a
demo CD and working up some live stuff with Laura Pilcher, a local pop
singer/songwriter/keyboardist. As if that isn't enough, I'm working on
starting an irish folk/rock band too.
Right now my drums are a Pearl Forum kit that belongs to a guitarist
friend while I'm finishing up a Keller woodhoop kit. Cymbals (not
borrowed) are a modest assortment of Zildjian with one Wuhan. I strive
to do the most possible with the least amount of gear, so it's
doubtful I'll ever be able to justify five kits and 40 snares, though
I envy you gear hounds from afar.
I am a new dad and not so new husband and freelance sysadmin/network
engineer. I've been actively posting to RMMP off and on since 1997
under various non-anonymous aliases.

Recently I've gotten into the e-drums stuff. Just built my own set with
stuff I found on ebay, local drum shops, and online stores. They are tons
of fun :) I've found it to be a creative addition to have a variable set
like that... different sounds, effects, and even switching around what pads
are what sounds. It's really put some different life into my drumming
again. Not to mention it doesn't wake up the 'rents at 2am ;)
I have a small side project where I've been writing some small electronica
stuff and releasing it online. I think it's just a way to let myself
continue expanding creatively when not having a group to jam with. I've
played with jazz, top 40, and ska/punk groups, marched drum corps, and hope
to get together with a band again in the future.
I'm a RMMP newbie, and having a great time reading all of your posts!

Scott Logsdon, 40. Originally from Santa Monica, CA. Started toying
with drums in 1973 (still own that kit). I've have been playing pretty
much constantly since 1976 (you'd think I'd be better at it). Married
14 years to a wonderful woman who's very tolerant of my penchant for
Sonor drums, Apple computers, J.A. Henckels cutlery and my new
astronomy hobby. We have two children of the female persuasion, ages 10
and 12. One female cat, 4.
First gigged professionally in 1979 with stepfather. Played with him
around the country in hotel & motel lounges from Nevada to the
Carolinas to Alaska. Later, I worked in Country, Rock and Top 40 bands
through the 1980's. Currently working at the Greenbrier Hotel in White
Sulphur Springs, WV. Have been here since 1993.

Nope. I'm off on some different tracks this August. I've been on staff
for eight years, seven as an assistant director, and I'm looking at
doing a few other things this year. The State Fair Band is a wonderful
experience, and I've been very glad to be a part of it and contribute to
it, but some new opportunities are opening up. I do plan on visiting
for a day or two, and one never knows what could happen next year.
1.) Hopefully I'll be playing drumset/electronic percussion for the
Lyric Opera Cleveland production of John Adams "I Was Looking at the
Ceiling, and then I Saw the Sky," which runs through August 4, which is
camp rehearsal week and the opening couple of days of the fair. (the
new CBA was just neogtiated, so no one's been hired for the season,
yet.) LOC has been trying to put this production together for the last
two seasons. (If I'm playing, my beautiful Pearl drums will be in the
pit. :-b I guess I'll also have to dust off the MalletKAT.)
2.) I'm tentatively scheduled to be one of three or four faculty for a
week-long music experience camp for 8-13 year olds at Cuyahoga Community
College the week right after the opera. (August 5-9)
3.) THE BIG THING.
I'm going to Germany to participate in Nebjosa Jovan Zivkovic's
Marimba and Percussion Masterclass from August 21-26. I'll be spending
time preparing 30-45 minutes of recital material for my trip. I'm
hoping to do a couple of small preview recitals before I go. I'll also
be spending some extra time on the continent as well to see concerts,
meet people, taste some authentic fermented liquids, and do a little bit
of shopping for things that I need that are only available in Europe
(timpani felt, especially). I'm hoping to hit other cities in Germany
and Brussels to meet a fellow percussive acquaintence. I'm also looking
at visiting the Netherlands and maybe France. I'd also be interested in
playing a bit of pickup work, if it were possible.
That's the story, so far...

James,
Never knew you were in New Milford. I guess that's what this
thread is all about. I used to play at the Cookhouse (good steaks!) and
Anna's/Michbeth's a few years ago. I still play at Tuxedo Jct in Danbury
once every 4-6 weeks with my cover band, Them Bones.

You're in Them Bones? I've heard a lot of good stuff about you guys, I'm in
West Haven right now, but soon moving to Norwich if everything goes well.
I work as a free lance Photographer Journalist for several music orĂ¯ented
magazines. I'm also the Chief review editor of the Dutch drummers magazine
Slagwerkkrant. What time is left I spend either behind a drumkit playing
rock, dance and drum 'n bass with one of the projects I play with or with my
girlfriend Annemieke, whom I've been with for eight years and living with
for the past three and a half. I have way to much gear to list here, have
two cats, two goldfish, and that's about it really...
Grtz!

I'm a middle school asst. band director in the Poway School District here in
San Diego. It's a great school district, with a top notch band program.
My wife and I just had a boy in January, so we're 'learning' to be parents ;)
Fun stuff!
I play in a local orchestra (principle percussionist) part time, as well as
play in a Christian band. We're recording a few albums at the moment, and in
the process of planning a summer mid-west/eastern tour, as well as a
fall/winter European tour.
I'm mostly a music teacher who also plays for the love/fun of it. I'm
fortunate that my wife is also a band director (coincidentally, she's an
elementary band director who's kids 'feed' into my school), so she understands
my passion.
In my 'spare' time, I'm an avid movie geek.

Good to see our propaganda campaign is working! :-) Ever heard of a bar
called Rookie's in Cromwell, CT? We're playing there on March 16th. All I
know is that Cromwell is FAR from Westchester, NY! They're putting us up for
the night, fortunately.

That's weird! I was born in VA, I LIVE near Santa Monica,CA and my
Great Grandpa used to teach fly fishing at that hotel 70 years ago.
Small world. Do you get to go down in the basement? Wasn't that a
bomb shelter for the President at one time?

After a year or so of focusing on getting a small steel band off the
ground (gotta pay for that mortgage somehow), I'm getting back to my
main musical interest, mallets. Rest assured, when (hopefully "when"
and not "if") I get my vibes group in to some local clubs, I'll be
publicizing the gigs here on RMMP...
If "yooze guys" have a mailing list for the band, put me on it - if it's
an old-fashioned snail-mail list and not e-mail, I'll send you my
address offline.

I'll see if I can pop round that day, I've been to Rookie's, it's your
typical sports bar, with the big screen TVs on all the time.

Where near SM? My folks are in Mar Vista. Aunt & uncle in Brentwood,
cousins in WLA.
I go down in the basement every night to get to the cafeteria -
lovingly referred to as "Kitty's Litter Box."
I took the bunker tour last year when Dad came to visit his grandkids.
The freakin' thing is huge! If you see that the "Secret Passages"
episode is airing on the History Channel, take a look. It gives the
story in detail (along with hotel propoganda footage). BTW, it was a
bunker for Congress not the prez.
