those are all great albums. low is my favorite of the trilogy, with
lodger in a close second. eno is the key here. you got any of his solo
albums or ambient stuff?
> The Arcade Fire - Funeral
did you see them perform with bowie on that fashion rocks/hurricane
katrina benefit a few weeks ago? they did bowies 'five years' then went
into a song off of funeral WITH bowie! it was great.
I forgotten how good Derek and the Dominoes was. Turned it on to
practice to. What a great album. That funky, sloshy shuffle on "Key to
the Highway"'s just perfect for that song. Bill D.

No? I'll see if I can find it. I was so pissed - they played my town a few
months ago and I thought I'd ordered tickets, but realised a day before that
I hadn't. It sold out. >(
Ooh, add Autolux - Future Perfect to the now-playing list. You should check
it out if you don't know them.

How is Pelican besides loud? it's instrumental, right?

Did you get it on the double LP? I'm not really a big Converge fan, but
it looks sweet as hell.

based on the bands you mentioned i'd have to say the following off the
top of my head...
the dillinger escape plan (pretty obvious)
crime in choir
red sparowes
smoke and smoke
pelican is instrumental. slow tempos, thick heavy guitars, i hate
labels but "slo-core" is a pretty good fit.
i didn't get the double lp, just the cd for when forever comes crashing...
i'm sure i'll think of some more and post them...
d a v e
Oceansize are cool. Is this their new one? Any good?
TJ
> the dillinger escape plan (pretty obvious)
GahhHH!!!! The WORST band in the history of the universe! EVER! God, I've
had to sit through two of their live performances, it was painful. Daron
Malakian said we were wankers for not liking them after they were
unanimously booed off stage for being so damn awful!
Zo
Just what made them so detestable?
Perry
The complete and utter lack of tunes. I like metal as much as the next guy,
but when it gets 'hardcore' to the point of Dillinger it's just ridiculous,
I couldn't pick out a single note or word in half an hour. I don't like it
when people tell me the metal I like is just mindless noise and shouting,
but to be honest, that's exactly what DEP are to me.
Zo
haha...yeah
> crime in choir
> red sparowes
I'll have to check them out.
> smoke and smoke
I saw these guys with Joan of Arc (whose double LP on white and red
vinyl) I forgot to mention). S&S was pretty interesting. Drummers
should definfitely check out Joan of Arc, I feel.

i'd be interested in hearing what metal you are into.
also, have you only heard dillinger live or have you heard any of their
albums?
d a v e
yes, new album just released this week. it's different from effloresce
but imho just as good. definitely the progression i expected from the
band from effloresce to music for nurses to everyone into position...
recommended.

I think SOAD are the best band in the world, I loved the first SlipKnot
album (flame away), I like Tool, Anthrax (sometimes), Biohazard, bits of
NIN, AFI (ok, not really metal), A Perfect Circle (ok, still not metal).
Fine, maybe I just don't like metal! And by and large I do not like
hair/glam/80s metal. So feel free to entirely disregard my views :-)
And no, I haven't heard any studio stuff, I was put off for life.

And eagerly awaiting the new Jamiroquai, "Dynamite", from Amazon.com.
As you can tell, I'm all about the funk, these days.
CM
Actually, Stevie plays drums on most of the album. Raymond Pounds does
play drums on a few tunes--the ones that I can recall that feature his
drumming are "Sir Duke," "I Wish" and "Contusion," but I think he plays
on a few more as well.
I was just listening to this album the other day. "Knocks Me off My
Feet" is perhaps my favorite song on there, but all of it's classic.
Ed Pierce
There's at least a couple of Stevie tunes, probably more, with 2
(human) hi-hat tracks. One is sloppy and washy and kind of swung but
sounds great, (played by Stevie I assume) and another that is tighter
and helps hold the track together (possibly played by another more
technically accomplished player?)
