i'm sitting here stunned. i'm sure many of you have heard about that fire at
that club in Rhode Island where Great White was playing? the death toll is
at 95 right now. turns out initially that the media stated that Jack
Russell, one of the guitarists, was missing, which turned out not to be
false information generated by the massive confusion in the aftermath of the
blaze. i just found out from CNN that it turns out that the guitarist
missing is Ty Longley, a friend of mine who i used to gig with in my
"pre-jazzer" pop band days. this is absolutely terrible news...i know his
sister Audrey very well too. she's an absolute doll and i've worshipped her
for ages...we're very close. it was through her i met Ty, and got to gig
with him on several occasions. she is a flight attendant and i can't get in
touch with her. i have no idea where she is right now! this is absolutely
terrrible news...please, a moment of silence for a fallen brother...

he died on stage... i think that's probably how we'd all like to go when
it's our time. your music lives on..rest in peace Ty.

Bad enough it's a tragic event. But to know someone who actually died in
that horror... Nothin' good coming out of that situation but better
fire-code enforcement. Such a sad thing.

Let's just hope the club owners were filthy rich and go to jail.

They didn't have a permit for the fireworks. Do you think *any*
fair marshal would issue a pyro permit with 10 foot ceilings?

JR, I found this on canoe.ca.....thought it would let you know where Ty's
sister is.....

**Guitarist Ty Longley, 31, was among the missing. His father, Pat Longley,
of Sharon, Pa., traveled to Rhode Island with the musician's sister. "We're
sort of hoping he's in a hospital somewhere," he said.

Longley's mother, Mary Pat Frederickson of Valdosta, Ga., told The Herald of
Sharon she had always feared for her son's safety, but not on stage: "Only
on airplanes, buses."**

thank you very much josh...that information is greatly appreciated.

i acually found out that Aurdrey, Ty's sister, left for Rhoode Island even
before Pat (Ty's father) did. the problem is that i do not have Audrey's
current cell phone #. i left a short message on Pat's home answering
machine, but i don't expect a reply for quite some time, if ever. things are
going to be a mess there with so much going on, and they'll be that way for
a while i am sure. this could get really ugly. they're talking using DNA and
dental records to identify the survivors. also, i am just a friend, not
immediate family. i just wanted them to know Ty and all of them are in my
thoughts. thanks again Josh, i really appreciate it. JR

The photographer that I am working with on a website had just shot some pics of the band when they were in San Diego last month. I have put 3 pics of Ty up on a little tribute page. I didn't know his work......I just figured it was fitting to do something like that.

Pass it around

I've been in that club 15-20 times to see both national acts and local bands
that we've gigged with...and I was in absolute shock that ANYONE would be
stupid enough to use pyro larger than a damn lighter in that club. It's
small and the ceilings are extremely low. Hell if you're on the floor in
front of the stage, the lighting rig is literally a few feet above your
head.

Everyone's starting to play the blame game, but I'm still sick to my stomach
over this event. One of the guitarists in my band works with someone who was
there. He made it out...but his brother didn't. I'm sick over this.
