Smith Sig snare; Dixon rack with assorted cymbal arms and tom holders;
Yamaha FP8xx kick pedal; cheap Westbury hat/snare stand; cheaper Sabian

woodblock.

>2. What type of music do you usualy play

We do most of the popular rock/alternative stuff. I jam to my
Soundgarden CDs once in a while, but the band plays some Nirvana, Foo
Fighters, Sloan, Green Day, Radiohead and the like.

>3. Main influences

Well... first came Matt Cameron from Soundgarden. I've gotten over
their disbanding now. I'm HEAVILY influenced by Andrew Scott (?) from
Sloan. I love what he does! I'd give anything to play in a band like
that, cause their music is so... cool! I'm like the only 15 year old
who digs their sixties style around here. I have a Buddy Rich CD... but
that stuff is mostly wayyy too "flashy" for me to handle... maybe
someday *sigh*

>these are just some things i wanted to know about everyone....brandon

I'm interested as well. How bout you, Brandon?

1.)a. Kit currently being circulated out: black Pearl export 5pc. (12", 13",
16", 22", 14x5 1/2") Zildjian Scimitar Bronze cymbals (20" ride, 16" crash, 14"
hats)

b. Kit due at my house Monday: Natural birch stain Sonor Sonic plus 5pc.
(10", 12", 14", 20", 14x51/2") Zildjian K series cymbals (20" Pre-Aged dry
light ride, 20" Heavy ride, 16" Thin dark crash) Zildjian A series 13" New Beat
hats. (yay!)

2.) Usually in practice I start out with 4/4 fast swing and digress through
samba, shuffle, and funk, hip-hop, etc.

3.) Influence/What I took from them:
Buddy Rich/ the value of sheer technical ability if nothing else.
Carter Beauford/ again technical ability, this time applied maybe a little more
musically, within a funk/rock setting. Also creativity (use of temple blocks,
different pitched cow bells, etc.)
Vinnie C./ I like these kind of guys don't I? Um... what I took... fast stuff
will sound cool if I can ever play it?
Brian Blade/ subtlety is also good.
Joe Morello/ swiped a few of his solo ideas, learned a lot about creative
timekeeping by breaking down some of his hihat and ride patterns and imitating
them.
Others...

I own three kits, a 6 pc. SONOR Hilite (maple, black sparkle lacquer)
for recording (rarely use all six drums though); a 4pc RIDEAU crappy kit
(60's PEARL); and most of the time I gig on:

SONOR PHONIC (beech) in red covered finish: 14x22 (sometimes switched
with a 14x20 in metallic orange finish), 16x16, 9x13. Snares: SONOR
Hilite 5.75x14, Yamaha brass piccolo, and SONOR 1960's 5x14 chrome
student model

Cymbals: 13" Zildjian K/Z hihats, 17" Paiste SF thin crash (or 16" SF
crystal, or 17" K dark crash), 20" Paiste Sig. Dark Full ride (or 20" 602
Medium, or 22" Sabian Jack Dejohnette).

(I also own a bunch of other crashes and splashes, PAISTE and Sabian,
and have a 19" K China that was formerly owned by Neil Peart)

> 2. What type of music do you usualy play

most everything, visit my websiet for more info on my gigs

> 3. Main influences

drumset influences are: Tony Williams, Levon Helm, Tom Ardolino (of the
great NRBQ!!!!), Jim Keltner, Ed Greene, and so many more. But, I'm also
incredibly influenced by percussionists (I am a full time percussionist
as well), other musicians, composers, dancers, 70's TV celebrities, etc.)

16x18 bass

Cymbals, some good and some trash:
Sabian HH Manhattan 20" ride (great for the price & in general)

Zildjian AmirII 14" hats (real CRAP that came w/ my old kit, need new hats)

Gibraltar and Sound Percussion hardware, Roc 'n' Soc throne, Vic Firth hickory 8D's

I'm a student w/o that much experience, so anything, but my main interests are in
jazz, funk, fusion, electronica (jungle), and anything inbetween. I don't play
heavy rock (though I listen to a lot of it), but I'm interested in stuff on the
experimental side.

> 3. Main influences

Anything bop, fusion, or jungle. Jimmy Cobb, Max Roach, Art Taylor, Yuval Gabay
(Soul Coughing), Dave Weckl, Alex Acuna, Billy Martin, Klaus Dinger (early
Kraftwerk), Jimmy Carl Black (Zappa).

Rock, alternative sorta stuff, as well as more mellow stuff

Number one influence is Scott Trembath (OK, so none of you have heard of
him, but that doesn't mean he isn't a good drummer!).I guess I'm also
influence by guys like Matt Cameron, Chad Smith and Danny Carey etc.

By the way, great idea Brandon! Nice to hear what everyone else has.

Yamaha Stage Custom with natural wood finish. It's a 5-piece kit, but I never
use the 13" tom. Heads are pinstripes on the toms, coated Ambassador on the
snare, clear Emperor on the kick. All A. Zildjian cymbals: 14" rock hi-hats
(soon to be traded in for something lighter), 16" medium thin crash, 20" medium
ride.

2. What type of music do you usualy play

Funk and rock, with an occasional straight-ahead jazz gig thrown in.

3. Main influences

Oh, there are so many! Early influences included Alex Van Halen, Lars Ulrich,
Charlie Benante and John Bonham. Bonham is the only one who I'm still
listening to. In the years since high school, the following have all made an
impact on the way I play and think about music: Mitch Mitchell, Steve Gadd,
Dannie Richmond (Charles Mingus' drummer), Dennis Chambers, Al Jackson (Booker
T. and the MGs), Jerome "Bigfoot" Brailey (P-Funk), Dave Weckl, Philly Joe
Jones, Buddy Rich, Gene Krupa, Lewis Nash, Ringo, Ansley Dunbar with Zappa,
Dave Garibaldi, Matt Cameron, Phil Collins and so many others.

Also, since moving to New Orleans last year, I've been very influenced by many
of the greats from this area, past and present: Zigaboo Modeliste (The
Meters), Mean Willie Green (the Neville Brothers), Stanton Moore (Galactic),
Johnny Vidacovich (Astral Project and John Scofield), Kevin O'Day (N.O. Klezmer
All Stars and Iris May Tango) Russell Batiste (Funky Meters) and Jason
Marsalis. The rhythms these New Orleans guys play are so funky! They could
knock down a wall with those street beats.

My background....

From England, I started playing in 1984 when I was 12, while at school I was
involved with a number of groups playing music of the time (The Smiths, Simple
Minds, U2, and so on...) Most of my 'real' experience came through the local
Christian scene, by the time I was 18 where I developed as a live drummer
playing festivals and opening acts for major christian artist tours.

I held off playing for a couple of years while at University and while
studying for my PhD. When my wife and I married, we moved to the US (around
Boston) where I now live and work. I am now again becoming involved in the
local christian music scene and I have been asked to audition in Nashville
for a couple of gigs.

My early influences were primarily 1970s and 80s British Drummers... Ian
Paice, Mark Brezecki, Mel Gaynor, Bob Chambers, Stewart Copeland. Other
major players for me were Omar Hakim, Chester Thompson, Manu Katche. I have
come to appreciate the playing of 'stars' such as Simon Phillips, Dave Weckl,
Vinnie Colaiuta... but I still tend towards the less technical British style
that I grew up with.

Drums...

Snare 1: 3x13 Ludwig Brass Piccolo
remo coated ambassador top, ludwig snare resonant bottom.

Snare 2: 6.5x14 Pearl Sensitone (steel)
remo coated ambassador top, ludwig snare resonant bottom.

Kit 1: Pearl Prestige Session Select
Liquid Amber Laquer
11x12 12x13 16x16 16x22
Remo Clear Ambassadors top and bottom.

Kit 2: Premier EMI-HAMMA (c.1974)
Polychromatic Yellow Covering
11x13 14x16 16x20
Remo Clear Ambassadors top, Remo Clear Diplomats bottom

Hardware: Pearl
Premier Olympic (c.1974)

Kick Pedal: Pearl Powershifter P101P (used on both kits)

Cymbals...

Zildjian A-Custom: 14" Projection Hats
15" Crash
17" Crash
20" Projection Ride
Zildjian A-Brilliant: 18" China boy high

Vintage Zildjian A: 14" New Beats
16" Medium Crash
20" Dry ride

Sticks: Vic Firth, 5A Nylon Tipped (for most playing)
Vic Firth, Dave Weckl (for lighter playing)
Brushes: Regal Tip, Clayton Cameron Sig.

Seat: Roc-N-Soc Gray Mac Saddle

Cases: Humes & Berg Enduro (foamless) for Pearl/Snare drums
Home made green vinyl bags for Premier drums
Humes & Berg Tuxedo for hardware

I just got a brand new kit. I got a set of shells from the Precision
Drum Co. to fit my existing Tama Artstar II hardware (except that I got
all new die-cast hoops for all the toms). PDC did all the drilling for
lugs and spurs, and all fit perfectly.

Shells are Keller maple. 6 plies/4mm thick, no reinforcement rings on
toms (the die-cast hoops offer the extra rigidity which isn't really
needed anyway), 8 plies/5mm thick on bass drums. Tom sizes: 9x10, 9x12,
12x14, 14x16. Bass drums: 16x18, 16x20, 18x22.

Shells are totally unfinished, and I haven't figured out how I'm going
to finish them yet. They look fantastic the way they are, but I need to
protect them with something. I really wanted to get a new Ayotte kit,
but didn't have $5000 lying around, so I did what I feel was the next
best thing--basically custom designed my own. With the ultra-thin
shells and die-cast hoops, they have a definite Gretsch vibe to them!
Nothing wrong with that, especially after spending only about $1500.

Cymbals:

K Zildjian: 22" Custom Medium ride, 20" Pre-Aged, 20" Custom Flat Top,
20" 'Old' K (Istanbul), 16", 17" Dark Crash Thin, a couple of Chinas,
8", 10" K splash.

A Custom: 18" crash, 6" splash.

Sabian: 21" DeJohnette Encore ride, 20" DeJohnette (original) ride, 18"
mini-bell ride.

> 2. What type of music do you usualy play

I play a fairly broad mix of styles, most of which fall *very loosely*
into the jazz category. I do play in a wedding band on the weekends for
the steady $$$, but I also play in the Chicago area with many jazz
players. I play with some fairly well-known (in Chicago) people such as
Patricia Barber, Fred Simon and Ron Friedman, also with a great young
pianist named Ryan Cohan. I used to play with a "smooth jazz" recording
artist named Brian Culbertson.

A short discography:
Culbertson, "Modern Life"
Culbertson, "After Hours" (Both on Mesa/Bluemoon)
Ryan Cohan, "Real World" (independent)
Deanna Witkowski, "Having To Ask" (Tilapia)
Rob Parton JazzTech big band, "Fascinatin' Rhythm" (ROPA Jazz)

I just started playing about a year ago in my church. They needed a drummer
one night and I was the only one that could keep ANY sort of rythm so......I
play the churches set of Pearls (don't know what type, they just have Pearl
plates on 'em...). They are probably older then God himself but they sound
great and I can play them anytime I want (I got keys) in a large
auditorium-like setting (loud as I want). PLUS, we have a killer sound
system which I can use with some buds to jam...all for free! 5-piece kit
BTW.

I bought my own symbols (22" rock ride, 16" and 14" crash) and intend on
getting some hats soon. They're all Sabian. OHHH, also just recently got a
8" Sabian china splash which I highly recommend!

>2. What type of music do you usualy play

It's a charasmatic church (Penticostal) so I play
everything...9/8,7/8,6/8,4/4,3/4, swing, straight, rock, soft, countryish
(yuck) and even some funk. On my own I play blues, a little jazz and
alternative, etc. Plus, I do a lot of playing in front of 160-200 people I
know every week so I got over stage fright pretty fast... :-)

>3. Main influences

Buddy Rich and mostly the people I have learned from at the church (we have
5 drummers who all play different stuff, plus one is a professional
teacher...).

Don't know his name but the guy that plays for Midnight Oil is a favorite of
mine too...

It's nice. I don't use it a ton, but it works well and sounds good.
Doesn't really have the bottom-end depth that I normally look for, but
as you might expect, it's a pretty sweet backbeat. Worth the $$$?
Sure. It's well-made. You'd probably have to judge that for yourself,
though.

Out of the frying pan into the fire...

Well, my kit is pretty easy to describe: V-drums. I'm currently using
Vic Firth nylon tipped 5As and a really shitty bass drum pedal (Yamaha)
which will be corrected very soon (like this weekend).

> 2. What type of music do you usualy play

Well, here's the crux of the biscuit: I played (very badly) when I was 19
with a little power trio specializing in Humble Pie covers, with equally
bad renditions of Santana and other main-stream rock & roll stuff. About
that time, I discovered jazz and haven't looked back. However, I was on a
borrowed kit at that time, and, well, circumstances prevented me from
pursuing my life long dream. Finally, about 4 months ago, I won a whole
bunch of money in a poker game, and, well, instead of buying a
refrigerator, I bought some V-drums. So, essentially, I'm getting back
into the swing of things. At this point, I'm taking my rudiments very
seriously, and spend my non-exercise time noodling along with some of
those great rock & roll tunes of the 60's and 70's. I'm having fun
playing along with Bonzo (naturally), and I get a kick out of playing
along with Boston (don't like their music, but some fun fills in there),
Humble Pie (too easy), Doug Clifford (some of it is more difficult than
it sounds, I have learned), Jeff Beck (BBB NOT!---Mostly the easy stuff
from There & Back), getting a handle on Rod Morgenstein (Dixie Dregs ---
What If? is maaaavelous), mastering some Deep Purple, and am currently
trying to master "Zomby Woof" and "Son of Mr. Green Genes" by Mr. Frank
Zappa (thank you, but I'll save TBP for later!). I play much better now
at 37 than I did when I was 19...(or maybe it's the equipment???)

> 3. Main influences

Well, I'm not quite good enough to be "influenced" just yet, but here's a
handful of folks I listen to very carefully: Anyone who played for Zappa
with the obvious exception of Jimmy Carl Black (especially Dunbar,
Thompson, Bozzio, Colaiuta, Wackerman), Billy Cobham (focusing on
Mahavishnu), Jack Dejohnette, Danny Gottlieb, Paul Wertico, the obligatory
Gadd and Weckl, love the work by that dude on Beck's "Blow by Blow" though
I always forget his name, and am completely fascinated by Ralph Peterson
these days (I wanna play like HIM, mommy!). Many, many more!

Oh yeah. And Joey Kramer from Aerosmith!!!! He Rocks, man!

Peace,

I left my PhD after a year as I was being forced to publish work that I didn't
think was ready and I fell out with my supervising team. I still have the
half-completed dissertation at home and I fully expect to complete it one day.

As for the touring around England - it was a lot of fun - but now I realize I
could have made much more of it than I did at the time. I was too young at
17 to realize that I had reached a point where I could start earning money
for what I was doing, it all happened so fast that I was totally oblivious to
the business side of the deal and was just enjoying playing, treating it as a
hobby! Had I been a couple of years older, I'm sure I would have made more
of the situation - but it was still some of the best times of my life!

This guy is excellent (he is on two albums with
Bireli Lagrene: "Standards" and "Blue Eyes"). Talk about swing!
Is there any more good CDs with him on drums?

Andreas

By the way you have one hell of a lot of drums :)

Yeah, Andreas, I do - and I cherish everything I've been fortunate
enough to have collected over the years, and I (restore them, if need
be, and) play them all. I don't just collect in order to amass
quantities of drums and cymbals - I only acquire what I'd actually
use. That which falls my way and which I don't or won't use, I pass
along to those who will (e.g., students, deserving friends with less
means than I'm blessed with) or sometimes trade, occasionally sell.

I've written to Modern Drummer requesting an article on Andre *DeDe*
Ceccarelli - thus far, no response. Word has it he's the Steve Gadd
of Europe - but apparently he has a quirk about leaving France to
tour, so he's limited his exposure. His younger brother's also a
great player, but not quite on DeDe's level.
DeDe's recorded a few CD's with DeeDee Bridgewater (e.g., *In
Montreaux*, etc.) all of which absolutely KICK, and he's also done a
GREAT album with the Enrico Pieranunzi Trio called Seaward. He's a
major inspiration for me. *Blue Eyes* with Birelli Lagrene's awesome,
eh? Ceccarelli's got such mature drumming artistry going - great
feel. I'm glad you appreciate this guy, Andreas.

Premier Signias, in emerald green. 10", 12", 13", and 16" mounted
toms, 5 1/2" snare, 20" bass drum. Cymbals are 14" Zildjian Quick
Beat hi-hats, a gorgeous 20" K. Custom Medium ride, 16" and 18"
Sabian AA crashes, a 12" Sabian AA splash, and a Paiste Accent
cymbal. Sometimes I'll also use an LP Rancan and a splash mounted
on an X-hat.

>2. What type of music do you usualy play

In public...rock. Currently, it's a punky-power-pop thing, but
I've done some stuff with a serious Peter Gabriel-type sound,
a RHCP/Jane's Addiction/Living Colour-style sound, and a bad
goth band. I play funk, jazz and latin, too, and I'm working
to actually play those styles in front of actual PEOPLE!

>3. Main influences

Vinnie Colaiuta, Tony Williams, Bill Bruford, Simon Phillips,
Chad Wackerman, Matt Cameron, Tim Alexander, Neil Peart. The
Peart influence used to be *way* too prominent, but as I listen
to other guys, it's not nearly as obvious. As of late, I've
been trying to work Tony Williams licks into quasi-industrial
and punk settings, which is lots of fun.

I've also been influenced a lot lately by a local Chicago drummer
named Steve Gillis, who I share a practice space with. He's
damn good, and you'll be hearing about him pretty soon...

are you so sure about this? SONOR, to my knowledge, has never made a
drumshell out of bubinga. They have used Bubinga veneers as inner and
outer plies (very thin plies) of shells, and they have made shells out of
maple, birch, beech, poplar, and combinations thereof.

SONOR Hilite drums are maple plywood drums, and I don't recall them ever
being offered in any of the "veneer" finishes (which included bubinga,
ebony, oak, mahogany, birch, and rosewood). They were offered in
transparent and opaque lacquers though.

Whatever you have, I am sure it is a beautiful drum (I have a 5.75x14
Hilite snare in red transparent lacquer that is amazing), I am just
pretty sure it can't be BOTH bubinga and Hilite, nor can it be a bubinga
shell.

Blue Eyes is the nicest thing Bireli Lagrene has come up with for a long
time. (I'm a fan ever since his tours with Pierre Moerlen and Dennis
Chambers in Germany.) It's a jazz tribute to Frank Sinatra's music (but
made before his death) and features Bireli doing an impressive job at
singing some of the songs. The musicianship is incredibe.

Ceccarelli swings great. Actually, I think the only reason why I get
away with playing jazz sometimes is that I'm imitating his
'tick-tick-a-ticking' ride feel. I love this sound. And he plays these
awesome rolls...

Yep, go to home depot and pick up some R11 sound control foam - $10 for a
roll of nine 7'x1' pieces. Staple it between all the joists in the walls and
ceiling. Then run back down to home depot and pick up some soundboard
(they're brown) about $8 per 8'x4' sheet and nail it up over the walls and
ceiling.

This will significantly reduce the sound - you will not be able to totally
sound proof your basement but this will really help... I know because I did
it.

1. I have a 4-piece kit...the 12x12(?) Rack-tom, 16x16 Floor-tom and 16x22

about 4 years...Than I played in a heavy-but-not-Metal band (ala Jesus
Lizard, Barkmarket) for about a year-&-a-half, and also a punchy pop thang
(ala Pixies) for about six months... After that, I played a Patsy Cline
tribute for about 2&1/2 months (and actually made some $$)... Now I play in a
sort of glitter-rock band (ala Cheap Trick, Imperial Drag, Johnny Thunders, T
Rex)... I've also subbed for various friends and been involved in several
ill-fated side-projects as well... 3. Too numerous to list, but I'll try
anyway...Mac Mcneilly (Jesus Lizard), Ian Paice, Bonzo, Tommy Lee, Rat

double bass, or speed-metal at all), Mark Brzierzki (sp?) (for the fabulous

Before I had a basement I said the same thing. Now that I have a basement I
found out how hard that really is. You have to worry about electrical
outlets - ventilation - Windows - Doors. Also building codes in most areas
have restrictions on basement ceiling hights. Its easier and cheaper to just
talk to your neighbors and play when they don't mind the noise.

WMP Leedy and Ludwig 22,12,13,16, 6.5 x 14 Broadway snare. I also have a 24"
Leedy and Ludwig bass that matches this kit. RIMS, DW double pedal,
Fiberskyn heads on the vintage stuff and pinstripes on any newer stuff.

CYMBALS: PAISTE FREAK! 8" 2002 RUDE splash, 10" 505 splash, 15" RUDE hats,
16" 2002 crash, 16" Colorsound power crash, 18" 602 crash, 20" 505 heavy ride,
16" Wuhan china.

MUSIC: Grew up playing in metal bands. Have since slowed down to become a
church drummer but still like the heavy stuff. Getting into jazz and
bigband/swing. Really liking Brian Setzer's new stuff.

INFLUENCES: Peart, Bonham, Rich, Ian Paice, Moon, Watts, Palmer, Matt Sorum,
John Densmore, Simon Phillips, Bozzio, Colaiuta, the list goes on. Too many
great drummers to list.

A room-within-room will only work if all the sides of the inner room are
separated from the outer room - that means floor, ceiling, and walls. This
raises a real problem in basements which typically are only 7' high. A room
within a room would require probably 6 inches to a foot making it almost
impractical.

Mike is also correct in that ventilation, and electricity are required and
getting this into an inner room without compromising the sound insulation
qualities of the room is difficult.

I think that for a basement, insulation and coverings are more suitable (and
more legal) and do reduce the sound enough that you shouldn't bother your
neighbours too much.

I don't wanna butt in but I saw this on a diy-show:

1. Soundproofing the ceiling

To soundproof the ceiling to a maximum, you would need to build a 'fake'
ceiling under the actual ceiling. This would, strangely enough, consist of a
wooden plate, or more wooden plates. This is to keep the sound from sounding
'natural' on the inside of the room. Apparently, they put isolation material
between the wooden plates and the ceiling (rockwool or a similar material),
another non-resounding material and then they put (this is cool) springs in
between (the springs make sure the fake ceiling vibrates but does not
transmit the vibrations to the floor above so it also reduces the 'trampling
elephant' effect you get from loud bass sounds) ... You got this
construction:

=========== -> actual ceiling
$ $ $ $ $ $ -> springs bolted to the upper ceiling and the fake ceiling
=========== -> some dunno anymore material (prolly PVC)
MWMWMWMWMWM -> rockwool
=========== -> wood

2. The walls

I can't remember how they did the walls. I think it was in a similar fashion
...

I could be wrong, I'm not an engineer :)

I collect and restore and sometimes even resell Rogers drums. I always
have at least 5 sets. Some sets are so rare they are permanent residents
in my collection. The Red Sparkle and the Champagne Sparkle set are
examples. Most cymbals I keep I have hand selected through the years and
they each have their own sound. Some cymbals come with sets I buy and
most of them get resold out with sets. Cymbals are one of the most
personal parts of your overall "sound" and I pay particular attention to
them.

I have just purchased an older house (circa 1928) and I want to build a
somewhat "soundproof" practice room for a rock band (including drums) in the
basement. The house is in a residental area. The next-door neighbors' houses
are about 12' away from my house. The basement is unfinished with
cinderblock walls and about a 7' ceiling. (Please keep in mind that I am
6'4" tall.) It has a *fairly* flat cement floor. The basements in the area
have a tendency to be damp and wet. (I'm in Buffalo, NY) This one seems to
be ok. It has a sump pump (I'm planning to put in a second one for good
measure, possibly with a generator if we have a really bad storm and the
power goes.) All the windows were recently replaced with glass block with
little 4"x10" closable vents.

I figure that we need a 20'x15' practice area. Does any one have any
information on how I should go about building a practice room such that my
neighbors won't hate me and my wallet won't implode?

I found the following post on DejaNews. I think this is helpful, but I want
to know how I should construct the walls, especially considering that the
cinderblock walls might get a bit damp during the wet seasons.

I haven't tried it yet, but using conventional framing methods I have read
that
you can virtually sound-proof a room with a special wall building technique.
The technique involves creating 6" thick walls instead of 4" standard.
Then,
you use standard 2x4 studs, but alternate which side of the 6" wall they
are placed on. By doing so, you create a thick wall that you can stuff full
of insulation, but no single stud allows sympathetic vibration to pass all
the
way through. The air trapped in the middle acts an insulator, as well.

I also found in an earlier home that by gluing acoustic ceiling tiles to the
walls, I was able to not only reduce the amount of sound passing to the
outside, but also knock down a lot of the sound that bounces around the
room due to hard walls. It didn't look all that great, but it was cheap,
and
made an excellent wall-sized bulletin board, as well! :-)

As I once posted (but never did it myself) the walls can be done exactly as
you mentioned in the other post. For the ceiling however, I suggested a
'ceiling on springs' so the sound would not escape through the ceiling. The
ceiling would 'reverb' but the actual walls wouldn't ... Just my 2c...

I second that, Jay - and thanks!!! I love knowing that this fantastic
drummer is being recognized over here in the U.S., 'though he
apparently won't come over to the States on tour for personal reasons.
What a loss for us.

hi,

for personal reasons, it is said here in france that dede don't like
to be to far away from his family, that's why he doesn't make too
much travel.

you can hear his jazz drumming on a couple a record by the singer
DeeDee Bridgewater, and on the Martial Solal Big-Band (from the 70's) :
he also makes a lot of studio work ...

his brother Jean-Paul and son are also playing drums ...

Sabian made a 21' HH ride cymbal DeDe Signature ...

that's all,
franck
