One of my favorite drummers is a guy by the name of Bill Berg from Flim and the
BB's. Anyone know what he's doing these days?

Mike,

I have enjoyed Bill Berg's drumming with Flim and the BB's too. And I too have
wondered what the heck happened to him and the band. I thought they musicians
all had a great chemistry going and they had some great sonic recordings with DMP.

If he's not playing out much, he's probably doing the Disney cartoonist thing
full time. He's been an illustrator/artist for them for years and worked on a
bunch their animated movies.

Mike & Carlos,
Bill is still living in LA, & as far as I know, still an animator for
Disney. He plays out all to rarely, unfortunately! I used to swap gigs with
Bill for a number of years when he lived in Minneapolis, & kept the drum
throne warm for him in the Wayne Johnson Trio (with Flim) for a couple of
years after he moved to LA. Regarding the BBs, keyboardist Billy Barber is
in CT doing a lot of studio things, reed player Dick Oatts has been with
Thad&Mel/MelBigBand/VillageVanguardOrch in NY for a lot of years. Flim
(Jimmy Johnson) with James Taylor, Alan Holdsworth, & many wonderful
projects out of LA. No plans for any reunion gigs or recordings. I hung
with Bill a bit, caught many of his gigs, & think the world of his playing!
You might catch him on any of the Wayne Johnson Trio sides. Years ago,
Modern Dreamer wrote a small article on Berg.

Wow, thanks Jay!
I'm especially impressed that you've filled his chair a number of times. He's a
terrific player! Also I knew he was a cartoonist but never knew he worked for
Disney. And yea, his work wih Wayne Johnson is amazing. I love that band too!
I didn't know they were from Minneapolis. Do you know Paul Steuber? He's a
friend of mine from years back. He's teaching at Music Tech presently.

Yes, I know Paul, Gordy Knutson & all the teachers at Music Tech. I don't
teach, but have done a few clinics over there. I just thought of another
Berg thing. He's on a straight ahead jazz side by saxophonist Bill Perkins
from a couple of years ago. I don't have it or know the name, but heard it
on the local jazz station - I'll do some mining & unearth the name of the
side . . .
