Have any of you used the Roland TD-70 Electronic Drum Kit? I played
with it in the store the other day and was really impressed with it.
Are there any other manufacturers who make something comparable? To
those of you who own one or use it, what are your impressions? Also,
the salesman told me that the basic setup costs $1500 and the full setup
is $2000. Does that sound about right or is that too high (i.e. MSRP)?

Thanks

I am using the sound module TD-7 with my accoustic drums, together with triggers, other than the pads that Roland produces. In Norway the module itself costs about $700, but I can not answer for the price in USA. I think the sound module has really a lot of interesting capabilities, and you can really live with it for some time to get to know it well. Somehow I think the editing function is made a little strange, though it gives you lots of opportunities. I miss more individual audio outputs, it's two of t

hem, in addition to the left and right outputs. If you use both individual outputs, you can not use any of the built-in effects, and that is really a pity.

When I use triggers ("K&K") with the module, I can feel a sligt delay in the signal, and that is some times really a problem, as I like to fill in some fast snare drum rolls now and then. Anyway, I think this is a problem in the triggers and not in the module, so I am looking for triggers that are better suited for the TD-7. If your salesman have any idea about this, I would be really happy to hear about it.

By the way, do anyone have an e-mail address to Roland, or anyone else that should know much about Roland, and the TD-7 in partcular?

I would recommend that when you test the complete drum set TD-70, be sure to check if there is a delay also when tou use the Roland pads. Play both soft and hard, play fast rolls on all the drums (good luck with the kick :-) ). Don't let the salesman impress you with sounds and Roland's as always technically impressive demos. In the long run I think that it is the pad-module interface that will tell the quality of the module in the long run.

Good Luck!!
