Live rhythm section over digital sequence?

Hello, I am thinking of making some jazz recordings by sequencing the
horns and recording a live rhythm section and soloists over the
sequence. Have any of you ever done this? Is it feasible? I can't
afford to hire an entire band, so I'm thinking of doing it this way.
