Just sold a Tyler Burning Water Strat due to body wood I didn't
like, Mamywo, and a paint job I couldn't deal with.
That said, it may have been the finest neck (rosewood) I ever played.
An unbelievable "broken in" feel right out of the box.
In between the frets the finger board was "rounded over" making the neck
feel like it was worn in.

I routed the pickguard and put in an

have an Antiquity Tele Bridge pickup in it. Now
that I have two strat style guitars, I was going to
change it back to a true Tele, but it sounds too
good!

Interesting. Do you mean rounded as in slightly scalloped? Do explain.
..Stevie Malmsteen (ack!)
You'd be suprised at some folk's gear list and nothing wrong or right
about any of it. My "first" gear list consisted of a early 80's Japanese
Squire Strat: a mid 60's Gibson 2 channel, 4 input (2 labeled accordion),
2-12 with vibrato that had to be sweet-talked in order to be warmed up;
and a DOD American Metal Dist. Pedal.
Boy I wish I still had that amp. I needed valuable rmmg guidance back
then and where were all of you?

This is like a combination GAS / AAS -o-holics anomyous:
My name is Troubleman, and I an amp-o-lolic/guitar-o-holic......
Guitars:
1961 Fender Stratocaster - sunburst, med-jumbo refret & vintage
reissue inertia block in the whammy - otherwise stock (ok, a push/pull
pot to remove the tone circuit or add it to the bridge p/u, but I have
all of the original parts...). Played many, many Strats, but this is
the best (IMHO) I've ever picked up - new or vintage.
1968 Gibson Les Paul Goldtop - p/u's replaced with real PAF's,
acquired when everyone wanted to sound like Tom Scholz and dumped
their weaker vintage p/u's for DiMarzio SDHB's (idiots....).
Parker Fly Deluxe - black, great guitar - sounds great, very resonant
and lively when played acoustically, weighs next to nothing, plays as
well as the PRS Custom I used to own, trem is one of the better made,
although (like Strats) bending the high B & E makes the low E go
slightly flat.
FrankenStrat - US Vintage Reissue body refin'ed seafoam green, Kubicki
maple neck/fingerboard with a very thin coat of lacquer (feels more
like a well worn vintage Strat neck), sperzels, graphtek nut, American
Standard Strat wiring harness, vintage Fralin's (neck and middle),
Duncan Vintage Rails in bridge. This is my project Strat - it morphs
several times a year (expecting a new neck soon).
Ovation Custom Balladeer - the old coffeehouse guitar, big round back,
decent piezo tone, great stage guitar.
Amps:
Fender VibroKing (up for sale)
1968 Fender Super Reverb - completely stock: the gnarliest, meanest
Super Reverb in creation.
Budda Twinmaster 4x10 (Mojotone). One bitchin' amp. Great tweed fender
tones, great vintage marshall tones. Needs a bit more power in midsize
clubs hence:
Budda Stringmaster 4x10 (being built) Bottom half of the cabinet (two
speakers) are closed-backed, top two open-backed. When ya hit the
footswitch for the lead channel, the closed-back cab is activated; the
open back 1/2 of the cab (identical to Budda Ten 2x10 combo) is active
for rhythm work. Or you have the option of just running 4x10s (two
open backed, two closed backed). GREAT tones from this thing!
Marshall 2555 Jubilee Anniversary 100 head
Precision Audio Tailoring 4x12 (Celestion V30) cabinet - this cab puts
Marshall to shame; don't get to use this rig very much, but it sounds
so great I can't seem to part with it.
Fender Pro Jr.
1x10 Fender blue frame, 15 watts (EL84's), and a tweed cover. Probably
the best "bang for the buck" tube amp around...
Do I include the Hughs & Kettner preamps? The have 1/2 watt power amps
- enough to power a 1/2 cabinet quite well, that's a stupid loud 1/2
watt.....
Effects (at least in use):
Fender Reissue '63 Reverb Unit
DigiTech Whammy Pedal
Alesis Quadraverb
Budda Bud-wah (pronounc
ed "boudoir") Wah - if you like 60's wah, it doesn't get any better
than this.
Fulltone Dejavibe
Ibanez TubeScreamer (i one one of each: ts-808, ts-9, ts-5, ts-10 - i
take the ts-5 with me 'cause its the easiest to replace).
Matchless HotBox - way killer tool!
Lexicon JamMan (memory maxed out)
Tape Echoplex - sounds great, but so damned finicky I hesitate using
it all the time
There's a plethora of "stuff" (Boss stomp boxes, Zoom Boxes, etc....)
sitting in the corner - too numerous to list...
And whatever else anyone might give me for my birthday this month
(shameless solicitation....)
peace,
Troubleman

Gibson Corvus(of course) made in 1986, metallic/pearl vomit green, one
double coil pickup, lots of dents and scratches. Looks like someone was
beat up by it.
Fender Squier Strat, which was once painted in Rasta crackle paint over
every surface of the guitar except for the neck. It was totally taken
apart, stripped of all paint, and re-assembled(by me) and is now one of
my favorite guitars. I did custom artwork on the pickguard(abstract)and
painted the plastic pickup covers with pearl green and purple paint.
Washburn G-IV-cheap guitar with a double coil w/coil tap. This was my
first guitar, red of course(not really by choice) and is now fretless.
Great fun with an E-Bow. Slated for de-construction/alteration when I
actually have some time. Considering a collage of eyes cut out of Cosmo

Well, I tend to be more of a lurker here, but I've enjoyed seeing the
wide variety of gear people use. Takes all kinds. Here's what I use:
Guitars:
1966 Fender Jazzmaster - coral pink
everything I want in a guitar, and pink too!
1990s Fender Jazzmaster w/ 1964 pickups - mint green
the old pickups make a huge difference
1960s Kay/Gretsch/Fender hybrid hollowbody from twangy hell
work in progress - kay body, tele neck and 2 rhythm pickups (in
neck and middle positions, bridge filter'tron, Jazzmaster tremolo
and a cheap gold finish. I call it a "Melecaster"
Amps:
1963 Fender Dual Showman
2x15" JBLs worth every pound!
1990s Fender Reissue Reverb
splish splash in blonde to match the Showman
1967 Fender Twin Reverb Amp
gorgeous, and loud
1975 Fender Bandmaster Reverb
I put two celestion 8" speakers in the head, loud and portable
Other:
1960s Farfisa MiniCompact
cry those 96 tears!
I play instro surf music pretty much exclusively, so I dig the big Fender
amps and twangy guitars.

Geepers, forgot to mention:
Hamer T-62 Strat - probably a better instrument than most Strats
Fender is makin' these days, especially non-Custom Shop Guitars. Has
Duncan APS p/u's and a gorgeous tobacco sunburst finish
Yamaha/Soldano 100 watt tube (4 x 6L6's) amp - or it used to be....
rhythm channel modded & voiced by Jeff Bober of Budda Amplification,
lead channel modded & voiced by John Suhr of Fender Custom Shop &
Custom Audio. Its got pentode/triode switch so that it can be played
with great tone at reasonable volumes. Stuck an Electrovoice EVO 12
speaker in it - great sounding (it rocks, it screams), very powerful
little amp - a Boogie killer.....

Guitars:
00-18 Martin, 1959. New (1972) tuners with "mother of toilet seat" knobs.
Bridge trashed in mid-80's, so new bridge with fishman transducer.
Extremely sharp attack -mic's great. front chewed up. Repaired cracks on
sides. Newly aquired "Martin" crack above pickgard. Needs refretting
(again). Probable cost of currently needed repairs= $200+. Cost of
guitar in 1973 = $225. Small bodied, mahogony sided.
Fender Jazzmaster. Avertised when bought in 1980 as "1959", probably
early '60's. Refinished with "Gym Floor" natural finish. Original
hardware with exception of whammy bar. Good neck. I've been debating
(for YEARS) whether to get S.D. higher output pickups (I like p-90's),
whether to refinish professionally (at a cost similar to my purchase
price of $250). I will probably sand down the gym floor finish on the
neck and shim up the pickups to closer than 1/2 inch sometime "soon"...
Ramerez classical. recently purchased.
Fender Precision Bass. 1990 Japanese. RW neck tobacco-burst, white pickgard
Tele-type control knobs. Cool.
Yamaha Accoustic. Beater. At girlfreind's (Ugly Female Singer) house. Don't
know the model. I check it at airports in the Martin's hardshell case.
Amps:
Fender Princeton II Reverb. Bough used in 1986 for approximately price of
a new one :( only I had to buy the foot swtich later. Really Cool 20
watt tube amp, 1 12 inch speaker. Clean fender with switchable gain
stage. Never found an effect which improved the tone on this one...
Marshall Lead 12. 12 trannie watts into a 10 inch speaker. Great in Living
room.
Effects:
Marshall Blues Driver. Doen't help the fender. Adds a floor switch to the
Lead 12. Maybe I should use something other than rechargable battery
Morley AB box. Newly aquired. Hope to have a setup with both amps.
Harmonicas, Piano, Flute, Talking Drum, Balliofone (unbeleivably cool).

Ok, here's the real sordid story. Me and my husband work with a poet
named Michael Baker, doning performance pieces. He lives in Tallahasse
and we live in West Palm Beach. He came to visit us to record some
stuff, which means that he gets drunk on malt liquor and we drink lots
of tea and Yoo Hoo and we start improvising stuff and he starts
talking. Well, our roommate, who is gay, dressed up in drag because we
were recording a song called "Chicks with Dicks" which we had written
lyrics to based on a story from a friend of ours of his visit to New
York city and his encounter with a pimp, and on day while we were
driving around saw a tractor trailer that said "Dyke Industries" on the
side.("Chicks with dicks and dykes with spikes.." come on , everybody
sing along!) Well, me being the only female in the house, the guys
thought that it was only right that I be the chick with the dick. So
out came his *giant* rubber phallus, molded after Jeff Stryker, with a
suction cup on the base, and I stuck it onto my Corvus, where it
remained the rest of the night. I have been accused several times of
playing guitar because I have penis envy, so in this case, guaranteeing
that this rubber phallus was the largest in the room at the time, I
think it was the guys who had penis envy.
And yes, we have a recorded copy of "Chicks with Dicks", very badly
recorded and produced, along with a song dedicated to "Edie Brikell and
her hot stinky crotch". I think I'll save that story for another time
though.......
So, that is why I didn't list the phallus in my gear list. I almost
did! But it really doesn't belong to me. Really!

Electric Guitars: (listed in approximate "I dig it" order... top =
best)
- Fender American Standard Strat (rosewood, no aftermarket pickups...
sounds great)
- PRS McCarty (Birds, humbuckers with coil-split; terrific sustain and
harmonics)
- Hamer Archtop Studio (flame maple top, lovely. It pains me, but I'm
selling it
to help offset the cost of the McCarty above)
- Gibson LP Standard (cherry sunburst, alas... no flame)
- Fender Tele Special (Maple neck, Humbucker/single-coil, 5-way switch)
- Epiphone SG ("best value"... used as travel/beater. Does the Gibson
thang great)
Amps:
- Fender Blues DeVille, 2x12 (huge, beefy sound. This w/strat are
irresistable)
- Fender Deluxe Reverb, reissue (great warm sound. Great for recording)
- Mesa/Boogie DC-5 (very flexible, but a bit trickier to 'dial-in' than
the Fenders)
- Fender Silverface Champ
Acoustic Guitars:
- Martin D-1 (full, chimey sound)
- Hondo Classical (yes Hondo! solid top, acoustic-electric pickup
installed, sounded
better than the Yamaha I traded for it)
Misc:
- Boss Chorus, RV-2? delay/reverb, PH-2? Phaser, Blues Driver,
OS-2 Overdrive/distortion
- Marshall DRP-1 Direct Recording Pre-amp (nice clean, decent marshally
overdrive,
used for recording, travel,
etc)
If I had to take one guitar/amp to a desert island, It'd probably be the
Fender
strat and the Deluxe Reverb (with, I hope, an overdrive pedal and the
delay/reverb).

I think I have an air sickness bag around here somewhere.
The poet is alive and well and living in Tallahassee, working on an
independent film project. We are writing the soundtrack.
Just think what would happen if I did drugs(other than caffeine and
sugar) or drank! This was (except for Michael) a completely sober
experience although I think there were strange forces at work.

You're going to have to explain the smiley, sorry but I'm new here. It's
nothing special, but pleasant, and since the strat arrived spends a lot of
time sitting in the case.

Absolutely, and I've already decided what I grab in a fire - the strat
comes first, followed by my favorite boots. If the news crews are outside
filming the fire I might get some jeans too :-)
A few more words about this instrument: I walked into "Music Junction"
here in Queensland one Saturday morning, hungover, feeling like a shower
and about six more hours sleep. I was NOT going to buy anything, just
stare blankly at the big price tags and while away the hours till bedtime.
I had to go look at the store, because I used to spend some time in a
place with the same name in the early 80's about 2000km away. Sure enough,
owned by the same people.
I spotted a Lone Star on the wall and thought I'd ask if it was OK to take
it down, so I did. Before I knew it this utter artist of a sales
guy/repairman was throwing me into the soundproof room with all kinds of
different axes, including a Squier that he claimed was used by
Regurgitator to record "Tu Plang". So, I looked them all over and tried
not to make it too obvious that I can't play. Then John comes back in with
a pink strat. It's a sort of salmon pink, 3-ply white pickguard, rosewood
neck. 60's reissue, so "vintage" trem and machine heads, staggered
single-coil PUs etc. Holding it was sort of like looking in the eyes of
someone for the first time and knowing you want to see a lot more of them.
Totally irrational - my playing is crap! And maybe this is a character
flaw, but having an instrument like this makes me want to play more. If I
had a Chinese strat that I hated I might have given up by now.
The story is that it was a special made for reps, it's a one-off color or
something like that. I don't know if this is actually shell pink or a REAL
custom color, but I like it and I guess I don't mind if anyone else has
the same color. Last time I was in the shop a guy asked if it was real
vintage. All the other guys in the shop know me as the guy that got the
pink strat. Whether they're smirking at me for buying something ugly or
are jealous I'm not sure, probably jealous!
It's a combination of the thick neck and the finish that makes it feel so
good I think. The body is basswood, but I don't mind. The single coils are
good, but very noisy especially at my place where even the amp hums along
by itself. I got some copper tape and shielded the whole lot and it
improved out of sight. A current experiment is a gold lace sensor at the
bridge, which makes it ring like a bell. I will probably get a set of
Texas Specials next, now it's virtually hum-proof, for some fatter sound.
I wasn't going to do it, but I gave him a deposit right away, even got the
30% discount without asking twice - which probably means I paid more than
I could have - but I don't care. Price in Australian dollars was about
$900 - I think I did OK. I have never held a real L-series strat but I
find it hard to believe that one could be $5000 better. This thing has a
real aura. Two weeks later I got an increase on my VISA limit so I could
go pick it and the amp up, couldn't wait for payday. Since that time, if
I'm watching TV it's on my knee and I drown out all the ads :-) My teacher
looked disappointed, I think he would rather hear mistakes on that nice
quiet Craftman.

Your restraint is both admirable and appreciated, Carl. ;-)
So what about non-gear stuff that folks consider essential? For example,
I have a large poster (b/w) of Miles holding a finger to his lips in
the universal "silence" pose. It's a Jeff Sedlik photograph. Always
reminds me to shut up when I don't know what to play, instead of rambling
on foolishly. I consider it an essential part of my practice environment.

I have an Elvis (Presley, that is) clock in the shape of a guitar in our
bands rehearsal space. While it gives me no inspiration for playing, the
inspiration for stage presence is immeasurable.

1992 Ibanez EX - now called the Bastardcaster, the neck PU is a Duncan
Alnico Pro, the middle PU a Duncan Vintage Staggered, and the bridge is
stock but soon to be replaced by a Duncan '59. Replaced tuning heads, nut,
bridge has been fixed, control knobs now two Molson Canadian bottle caps,
various other cosmetic atrocities committed. Actually looks pretty cool-
kind of a neo-Jaguar look going on. Toying with the notion of cutting a
pickgurad to mount on it, a la Les Paul Special...
1995 Takamine N-10 - before they went to the Santa Fe rosette. Looks like
Richard Thompson's Lowden. I like it.
1982 Music Man RD-110 - replaced the stock EV Force 10 with an Eminence
alnico speaker (same as in the Fender Pro Jr). Yeah, the resale value is
wrecked, but it's a f&!k of a lot lighter...
Ibanez TS-5 - modded back to TS-808 specs, with the JRC4558 opamp and the
resistor changes.
ProCo Rat II - loud!
Sovtek Big-Muff Pi - again, Molson Canadian beer caps glued on as control
markers...
home-made MXR Distortion+ - 1 control - volume... I call it the Moulderizer,
cuz it makes me sound like Bob Mould...
I think that's it. Someday, I'll be able to post my 1959 Les Paul Special
(P-90s!!!) thru my 70s MArshall half-stack... which in reality will be an
Epiphone Les Paul Special thru a Sovtek Mig-60. If even. Alas.

I belongs to my roomate who dressed in drag. Yeah, Jeff Stryker is a
fairly well known and very well endowed male/bisexual porn star. I only
know all of this because the phallus is always referred to as "Jeff".

Well, on my list is obviously a large rubber phallus with a suction
cup! Seriously though, usually when I am practicing the cats like to
come sit on my amp or rub on my legs and it reminds me that even though
I don't play out anywhere and almost no one hears my music, *someone*
does and considering this, I still have someone as an audience, so I
have to make sure I still sound good for the kitties. The snakes don't
seem to care how I sound. For all of my silly posts here, I actually
take myself seriously as a musician, but it is something very personal
that I don't share with many people, somewhat because my musiacl
vocabulary is like another language even to other musicians. I always
remind myself when I am playing that the only person that really matters
to look to for approval is myself anyway. Thanks all you guys for
making me feel welcome here and letting me be silly without flaming me
too badly.:)

You know, if we had better mixing equiptment we probably would have
released some of it! There are a few copies floating around, close
personal friends have them. The whole thing was recorded on 4-track
with no mixing board and really needs a lot of work. I don't think I
could stand to be in the same room with the real Yoko, but I'm sure we
could work someone else in there.
Really, most of my music is much more serious than what I described. I
don't know if I'm ready to take on the NEA yet though! Maybe one of
these days.
Elizabeth
I'm afraid that you would have to be "doing something" with it before the
NEA would be interested.
It's a sick world

I just got rid of a LOT of stuff that I never used (4 guitars, couple
amps). I can honestly say that everything on this list gets played a
lot.
Guitars-- '96 US Standard Strat, modified-- Sperzel locking tuners,
Texas Special pickups, vintage white w/ tortoiseshell 'guard,
maple/rosewood neck. All 5 springs on the trem, .010-.052 Ernie
Balls.
'94 Standard Strat, bone stock-- black, maple neck. Again, all 5
springs on the trem, .010-.052 Ernie Balls.
Some no-name acoustic of indeterminate age.
Amps:
Crate Vintage Club 3112-- 30 watts, 1x12". Loud little mother. This
replaced a silverface Twin and a mid-80s JCM 800 50-watt combo. Once
I bought the Crate, the other amps gathered dust.
Peavey Companion 15-- one 8" speaker, runs on batteries. This goes w/
me to the park on nice spring days.
Effects:
Ibanez TS-5 Tube Screamer
Ibanez CS-5 Compressor (a dirt cheap, great sounding box)
Boss CH-1 Super Chorus
DOD FX9 Digital Delay
Dunlop Tortex picks (.73 and .88)
Craftsman 9/16" deepwell socket for slide (thanx Lowell!)

1930s no name Mandolin (also tuned like a bass)
