Got two of them:
Starfield Cabriolet American Standard -- US made Stratocaster-Copy
with 25" scale lenght. Great guitar!!!!! Duncan Single Coils, Wilkinson
Trem, Gotoh Locking Tuners, great neck, best of all: Big sound!!
Very much attention to detail!!! Got it for about what the price of
an US Strat would be over here in Europe and the Starfield is superior
IMHO. I forgot to mention: It is beautiful!!
Starfield Classic -- Japanese Copy of the US model. Traditional Strat
with Gotohs, alder body, maple neck, very nice single coils, Vintage
Trem. These are highly recommendable since you can/could get them
really cheap (paid about 600DM for mine ($400)) and the quality
is HIGH and the sound is great. I didn't have to swap any hardware
as pu's and so on. It sounded great the way I got it from the shop.
Bought it in Paris and had to carry it on the train back to Germany
with a lot of other luggage. It was a pain, but I had to get this
great instrument.
Tried a couple of Starfields and all were great instruments,
especially the japanese guitars were great value for the money...
I've got 8 guitar's right now (recovering from GAS), and I am
considering selling some of these, but I would NEVER part with these...
Its sad that the company isnt around anymore.... But as I understand
Ibanez has taken over responsibility for the warranties, so may be....
BTW, the new Talmans are very similar to some of the Starfields in e.g.
the neck joint's design etc..
Cheers

Hi Kyle,
Off the top of my head, the Starfield line was split into two standards; a
lower quality foreign maufactured line and the american line which had
better hardware and generally seymour pickups. I bought mine from a guy
whose receipt said $1295 new with some custom wiring for no charge. He
paid full retail for the special order. Beautiful guitar with flame-top
under black finish - Duncan JB and '59 Humbucks with a kind of PRS shape
body. I'm very proud of this one because of its playability, looks, &
build quality; get a lot of compliments on it tonewise also. Didn't care
who made it nor resale consideration. This one's perfect for me and a
keeper.

Cool, the one I played that I really liked was that guitar but with a
purple see-through finish. Thanks for the info.

I think Starfield guitars were made by a company called Hoshino (any
affiliation w/Ibanez?)...The reason I know this is because on p 18-19 of
my Seymour Duncan catalog it has a picture of a green "Starfield
Cabriolet guitar by Hoshino" with Duncan Parallel Axis buckers.
