Will it still have the acoustic pickups? How? These were integrated into
the tune-o-matic schaller bridge on the LGX. I would guess that they
would have to go with a system like the Parker Fly guitar. Interesting.
Why don't you e-mail them and let us know what you find out.

Wait a minute... the LGX has a list price of $1695. You're telling me
that they will add features and lower the price? I doubt it.

The non-trem version is fantastic. As soon as I get the money, I am
going to get one. Also, I like the mahogany body better. I don't think
I'd like the LGX with a maple body. The SD's are supposedly
great-sounding pickups. These are probably the same pickups that they
offer in the LGS.
I really like the tetrads, though. I have these pickups in my LG.

The only LGX I've seen in person is a dark brown translucent finished
Maple top. The one they show on the website is a yellowish amber... So,
who knows. I like the one on the website better... you've got to play
this guitar to appreciate it, though. VERY NICE! My local dealer is
selling his last LGX off for $850! YIKES! That price is UNHEARD of! If
only I had the $$$.
-Cypher
The 'red' one is the mahogany finish. The 'yellowish' one is called
transparent amber. The colour in person is more natural looking than the
mahogany and the figured maple top stands out better. The mahogany has a
richer look, but I thought it made the guitar look a little less special,
so I went with the trans. amber.
I agree with your analysis of the price difference. The materials on the
LGXT are a little cheaper. Although I'm sure the synth access would not be
included for the $1495 list.

I bought an LGX -- it's brown by most definitions, however the
color code sticker on the back sez "Translucent Amber", only
spelled correctly :). My Les Paul Classic Plus is also marked
"Translucent Amber", and matches the color of the LGX on the
Godin home page..
Conclusion: Canadian 'amber' is anywhere from chocolate brown,
to tree-sap yellow.
Now I have two 'translucent amber' guitars... one is brown,
the other is yellow :). Take that as your moment of Zen.

I haven't observed these flaws personally, but I believe that the
website still lists the LGX as having an ebony fretboard. Someone should
e-mail them and ask what's going on. You're right about the price
points. The Godin has three independant outputs on the regular model and
adds a Roland GK2 pickup on the SA model. You don't have to use a silly
Y-cable or mess with all types of switching with the LGX. The regular
model can be bought for less than $1000. This is a twin humbucker guitar
with TEN pickup combniations and a customer L.R. Baggs saddle transducer
system for the acoustics. The acoustic part even has it's own EQ and in
independent from the rest of the electronics.
Even the most expensive Parker FLY guitar requires a Y-cable. I like the
separate outputs myself... some may prefer the stereo cable set-up.
If Godin's quality IS slipping, I'm sure we'll hear more about it on
this newsgroup. Certainly, any guitar maker is subject to a quality
problem on one or two guitars when you're building thousands of them.

They cut costs. Only few know that the original LGX (without MIDI) now
has no ebony fingerboard anymore. Also the paint job at the junktion of
neck and fingerboard (where a decent guitar has a binding) is shoddy.
The paint had some bubbles (dried too fast?) and peels of. And it is not
accurate either. That is the price for having a great guitar at a even
greater price.

Interesting...I finally got to a Godin dealer this weekend and they
had three LGXs...one with MIDI and two without, and the two without
did indeed have rosewood (not ebony) fingerboards. However I did not
inpect them carefully enough to notice any workmanship flaws. I only
played around with the MIDI LGX which played beautifully. The only
thing left to decide is whether or not I should wait for the tremolo
version.

I love the LGX, personally. I wish I had the money for one right now. My
local store just sold their last LGX for less than $1000. I'm really
happy with my LG, though. I paid about $600 for it including the case.
EXCELLENT guitar. I can't say enough about the LG. Perfect action,
super-flat fretboard, excellent workmanship, jumbo fretwire, great
pickups, ten pickup combinations, EXCELLENT, EXCELLENT EXCELLENT sound!
Very ballsy!

So the newer ones don't have an ebony fingerboard... That's not a big
deal considering the price of these HANDMADE guitars.
You're talking Mahogany body, AAA grade maple top (mine has the nicest
quilt top you have EVER seen), splitable coils, MFB filter, Acoustic
bridge piezo pickups (The best I've heard), Schaller tuners and an
Awesome sound. I found the paint/finish to be of good quality on the
Godin's I looked at compared to the orange peel finish of the Gibsons
along the headstock and the neck/body joint. I also found the general
workmanship to be very good. The fret work is flawless and I haven't
encountered the slightest fret buzz yet. The only thing I can complain
about is that the input jacks for the acoustic side are kinda cheap,
but I haven't had a problem with them yet. Also, It only comes with a
1/2 strap lock kit!? When I got my Godin, I couldn't use my strap...
Before I bought this guitar ($1050 CDN), I tried several PRS bolt ons
and Gibson Classics/Standards going for close to $2000 CDN. The Godin
blew the PRS's and Gibsons away in terms of livelyness and balls. I
just don't understand how Godin can give so much for so little!

There are TWO descriptions of the LGX on the website. One says ebony and
the other rosewood. Its rosewood these days.

You have to realize that this almost certainly will cut the wonderful
sustain of the guitar!? I am not sure how much but have to check both
types before making a decision!

Yeeeeeee HAWWWWWWWW!!
Leave it to Godin to take a great guitar, make it better, and sell it
cheaper!
Let see... the LGXT includes:
Acousitc Pickup
Synth Access
Seymour Duncan Pickups
Tremelo
Locking Tuners (probably)
Three outputs!
EQ for the Acoustic Pickup
Midrange EQ for the SD's (push/pull tone knob)
Maple body
Maple top (flamed, probably)
Maple neck
EBONY FRETBOARD
$1495 LIST!!!!!!!!!
Sign me up, dammit! Screw the Parker Fly(swatter).

You can bet I'll be one of the first to buy this guitar! A couple
bits of info...Lasido told me it would be a less figured top than the
flamed maple (they just said hard maple), have a mahogany neck (like
the current LGX), and be available in trans. red, trans. blue, black and
cream. It will have locking tuners.
I can't wait!

Lasido and Sweetwater Sound told me the first of the year.
I hope that's the real date, the first time I asked Lasido it
was supposed to be winter NAMM 97, then Summer NAMM 97,
now next year!

I may be wrong, its happened before, but my understanding is that the LGT
(not LGXT) is an LG shaped body with two tetrad combo pickups like the
standard LG. However, where the LG is an all mahogany body (the LGX adds
figured maple top), the LGT is all maple body (lighter). Also where the LG
strings through the body and over a tune-o-matic style bridge (with LR
Baggs piezos in the LGX) the LGT has a trem bridge. I don't think the LGT
has any piezo pickups in the bridge, and certainly not the same as the LGX
because the bridge is different.
In fact the best thing about the LGT is that it is different enough from
the LGX to justify buying it.

The LG is kind of a cross between the LG and the ST-IV. The LGT has the
same body shape as the LG but it's a maple body. The pickups are NOT
tetrad. They are generic "standard" pickups with a H/S/S config. The
hardware is the same as the ST-IV - using a Schaller "roller-nut" trem
and locking tuners. I believe that the scale of the guitar is 24".
I've played one before. It's a decent guitar for the money, but I
already have an ST-IV.
