After my enquiry into the Vox wah pedal (V847), which is highly rated
by Guitar Player, a local store got back to me with the following
information:

There are two Vox wah pedals. The standard wah ($180) and a more
expensive 'Gold Top' wah ($250).

Does anyone here know what the difference is between these pedals? Are
they both the V847 circuitry that is held in such high regard?

The agent for Vox apparently said that the Gold Top has 'more control
over the wah sound'.

Thanks for any info
Greg

as far as i could tell at the NAMM show, the only difference is the price
and the plating. nothing else. their rep. even admitted it. hope this
helps.

These are list prices. You should be able to get them for significantly
less. If I'm not mistaken the catalog outfits have the standard version
for $110 - $120.

Oops, sorry, just caught that Cape Town address. Well, you can get them
for $115 US in the States, anyway.

I haven't looked at the circuitry, but the standard reissue is supposed to
be a reissue all right, and it certainly has the look, feel, and sound.

Well, in that case it wouldn't really be a V847, would it? If you're in
a position to do so, play them both and see. Otherwise, stick with the
regular model IMHO.

None of the Vox reissues has the true vox sound. A buddy of mine has
2 original vox wahs and we compared them to the reissue. No contest. The
originals have a much more pronounced quack as well as a really wide
range. My old "Wah Baby" also sounded much better than the reissue but
not quite as good as the original. For the kind of money Vox is getting
for the reissue, you are better off buying an original.

I acadentially mailed you my response instead of posting it so here it
goes again:

I've seen a gold colored VOX pedal in a store near where I live (Mpls.)
it looked just like the other Vox but had Gold instead of chrome. I don't
think there is any differance on the insides though but I'm really not
sure. Th price was about ($150) new.

What I want to know is is Vox better than a crybaby? I've owened a
crybaby wah/volume for a while now and I have to clean the electronics
every couple of months to keep it from crackling when I wah. Is the Vox
better? Does it sound any better. I know this: I hate digital wah's like
those you find in effect racks.

Let me know

George

I'm not, which is why r.m.m.g is such a valuable resource to us South
Africans. When I phoned the *largest* music gear retailer in the
city and spoke to one of the guitar gear salespeople:

"I'd like to know the price of a Vox Wah..."
"What?"

"A Vox wah pedal"
"A BOSS??"

"No, Vox"
"What?"

"VOX!! V - O - X, Vox."
"Oh, Vox. Don't think they make Wah pedals."

> Otherwise, stick with the regular model IMHO.

Probably will. The general consensus seems to be that the only
difference between the models is the gold plating, which I would rather
not have.

Thanks
