Beautiful piece of wood, especially back behind the bridge. Nice
indeed.

Beauty, Carl.
Did everyone see the new P-90 Teleziod mock up? Yowza! Time to bring back
the returnables...
Dan
Looks *SWEET* , Carl!
Congrats!!!!!!
Jam out!
Peace,

Is it Fender Scale like the Fender Tele Jr. or Gibson Scale like the
Anderson Cobra Special?

Holy Shizit! I don't go for real flamey stuff usually (or is that
quilted? I always get my figure terms mixed up) but that's a beauty.
Waiting for the review on how it sounds..

Egads man! If it sounds and feels half as good as it looks, you are
one very fortunate soul!
Congratulations and enjoy it!

Doesn't say.
I'm serious though...I've been GAS free for a while, but I would like
something with P-90's. The PRS McCarty Soapbar ( and the new PRS with three
P-90s) are contenders, still, and it'd be worth my time to look for a Hamer
or three, but the Suhr ( the picture on the web page is a computer
rendering) looks like it'd do it for me.
Let me dream:
Mahogany body, TV yellow (...or Fender butterscotch?...mmmmm)
Gibson scale, mahogany/RW neck...profile and radius? Beats me! Something I
can grab, is all.
Beyond that there really isn't much to dream about, is there?!
(I'd orient the control plate as on a normal tele, but that's neither here
nor there, actually.)
Whaddaya say, John?
Maybe I'll email you...just don't tell my wife!
Dan
Okay, Carl, lemme tell you that I now officially hate you, and am one jealous
SOB... ;)
Seriously, though... That is one veeery sweet looking guitar, and if it plays
as good as you say, you've definitely got yourself one amazing piece of
equipment... I'll have to be taking that, you know.... ;)
Lucky bastid...

Man, it's beautiful! Putting your name and a pic of your guitar up on the
website was a very nice personal touch. Where else can you find a builder
with that kind of dedication? John Suhr is definitely in a class by himself.

$500 will nab yer a Hamer Special that will do
everything but the dishes, but P-90s were never
meant to do that. If you simply *must*, you can
spring for Fralin P-90s and tell us all how much
better they are than the Duncans that come stock
with the Hamer, and then we can decide whether we
should also spring for the Fralins. Do it! NOW!

Hamer does those.

Hamer does that.

There's Hamer.
You'll thank me, Dannnnnley.

Absolutely. Hamer makes some darn good guitars, some of which even appeal to me.
Matt I.
The thing is, I HATE the pickup selector location on Hamers (PRS, too). It
just doesn't work for me. The Suhr guitar mentioned above (have you seen
it?) has everything where my hands want to find them, where Leo (all bow
heads) wanted them to be.
No doubt a hack of my stature would be happy with a Hamer...they make nice
guitars at a nice price for sure.
I'm serious about the Suhr, though...I spent last night projecting income
and outgo, and trying to see if I can squeeze a little more blood from the
few turnips we have laying about.
Dan
They certainly do. The One True Robb has a passel (at least half a passel)
of Hamers, including a Special. But....
Dan
Aye. I don't want anyone to get the wrong impression or anything. I've played a pile of them
things, and the nicer ones are really nice guitars. For NOT being Fenders that is.

>Absolutely. Hamer makes some darn good guitars
A few months ago, we had some people come play at our church, and the
guitarist had a Hamer Goldtop. It was a really, REALLY nice guitar. Felt
lovely. Looked great as well - I don't usually like goldtops, but this one
was great. Almost a (subtle?) green tinge to the gold. He was playing it
into a Musicman head and cab, and it sounded killer.
have a good one,
Stevie DejaToobjerkFAQNaziMiŠ
I'll second that; I realize that this thread is about John's guitars, and
based on what I hear (and my one experience playing a Pensa-Suhr many years
ago) they are absolutely killer, but I have to think more about Gibson-style
mass-produced axes. Therefore, my next guitar (I think) will be a Hamer
Artist GATA.
I've started to do some homework, anyway, and have yet to find an owner of an
American-made Hamer who was anything less than delighted with his axe.

Okay, cancel everything I said.
Giri I.
Oh, absolutely. I wasn't criticizing you or anything
you do, in the least. I was just pointing out to Dan
that the Hamer Special is a damn fine guitar that
really does nail the P-90 thang, at a great price.
It's a frequently overlooked instrument, and I feel
obliged to sing its praises once in a while.

Yeah but I heard that Matt I., free thinker that he is, actually LIKES them. If I were you, I'd
re-think my position on these. They must cost a TON of money and have stunning tops and birds and
such for HIM to like 'em. Boor Szjwa they are.

Damn your eyes, Ron Thompson!!!
Honestly, though, let me reiterate that I don't buy 10 tops, don't buy bird inlays, and all that. I
like guitars with fixed bridges (with one particular favorite type), carved tops, relatively shorter
scale lengths, and wide necks. I like the Hamers because they have many of those features, plus a
nice thing called good quality, especially for the price.
Matt I.
Thanks. I think.

Ok.

Well I was going to list the appropriate ギIC product to match each of yer needs.
But you lost me on the quality thing...
I, too like Hamers, but I have never gotten around to purchasing one
because I can't stand the visual appearance of their 3 on a side
headstocks! They seem somewhat unfinished to me - very plain. (I have
the same beef with Heritage, but I did overcome it to get a Golden Eagle
archtop that was a killer player.)
I know it is pretty weak to be swayed so much by such a simple cosmetic
thing, but that's just the way I am...
Thanks ... Jay

That's why I included it. :)

Yeah, I think it's pretty ugly, too. I don't know why they didn't bother to make one with a decent
shape.
