I'd love to be able to get a CE-2 sound out of a new and in-production
effects unit. None of the Harmony Central reviews I've seen on the
CH-1 reference the CE-2 in a comparison, though.
Has anyone here compared a CH-1 to a CE-2? If so, mind saying what
you think about the CH-1 (along with a brief description of what kind
of guitar, amp, and other effects you use)?
Thanks

Well friend, I'd say Boss told you a silly little lie. The CE-2 is
ANALOG chorus (modeled very convincingly after their own CE-1 circuit)
while the CH-1 is DIGITAL. It's nowhere near as warm and lush, but a
decent chorus pedal all the same. It doesn't touch the CE-2 though,
which is my chorus of choice.

I heard the VooDoo Labs Analog Chorus was good. I tried it out,
bringing my CE-2 along for the ride. NO COMPARISION. The CE-2
outclassed it. Your true best best is the recently reissued EH
PolyChorus which just might be one of the best choruses every made. It
will give you that CE-2 sound along with a tone of others. But you can
get used CE-2s all over the net for around $50, so you should give a
look.

I've owned both at the same time, and have compared them extensively. I
think that the CH-1 isn't that bad of chorus pedal, but it's no CE-2,
however, it's defenitely the best in it's price range (under $79). I
used it with a Marshall Valvestate when I owned it, and felt that it
worked well with solid state amps, however, when used with a tube amp,
really sank. I used a les paul custom with it. I really think that
your best bet is to check around the net for a used CE-2, although I
hate to endorse them, Daddy's Used Music usually has several of them at
any given moment. Good luck to you, and I hope I was some help to you.

I owned a Voodoo Lab analog chorus for a few weeks, and it didn't
compare very well with the CE-2, either. (I've got one CE-2, and I
guess I'll be picking up a few more.)

I'm sorry my friend, the Super Chorus is indeed digital. Digital pedals
have analog parts as well! :)

I tried the VooDoo Labs after hearing good things. I was thoroughly
unimpressed.
Here Here. I personally have no idea what the buzz is about these
pedals. The store I went to had a dealer display with most of the VL
pedals, so I tried them all out, even through a nice tube amp, and they
sounded pretty bad, at least worse than the comprable Boss pedals. NOT
worse the extra case folks, VL pedals aren't worth it.

I believe the MN3007/3107 that Bob Sweet was referring to is
the actual delay line (Matsushita chip?). Analog delay lines
would make it an analog chorus.
MG
Either way, they don't sound the same. If you want the 80's vibe
chorus, the CE-2 has got the rich sound, like a milkshake, nice and
creamy and smooth. The CH1 is a bit more transparent and subtle.
I can cop a good vibe through my super reverb and CE-2 playing "Big
Log" by Robert Plant. I understand the japan ones are better than the
taiwan ones. My jap one has a JRC4558 op amp chip, for what it's
worth.

Joshua, I think Bob should know! Bob, out of curiosity what's your
favorite chorus pedal?
ERIC
Eric,
I can't say it's my favorite but I've been using a CH-1. It gets a
decent sound for cheap. I've got a brand new Voodoo Labs sitting here
that I don't care for, not that it's not good it's just not my flavor.
I've had the TC and it overloaded to easily, same goes for the CE-1.
The CE-1 had a great sound but it overloaded way to easy.
My favorite chorus is a pitch shifter(insert your favorite brand name)
doesn't matter which one, set for about 50/50 mix and the pitch dropped
or raised a few semitones. It gets a great chorus without the sweep.
Which is one of my complaints on Voodoo labs, the delay time is to short
and you can hear the sweep to much. More like a light flange than a
chorus. Which is not to say it's not good, like I said it's just not my
favorite "flavor", but it is true bypass!
I can already see what my next project will be...
I was hoping you'd say that...you should develop the ultimate chorus
pedal.. I currently use an EBS Unichorus which was designed for keyboards
and bass I believe. It sounds great, but when set up from the factory
actually provides too much of an increase in volume and substantial
glassiness to the sound since I use it for guitar instead of bass. I've
adjusted the trimpot inside to lower the volume, but that also limits the
effect's versatility alot! I did love the CE1 too, but it's too big for
practical bar use, a bit noisy as it's so old, and didn't have true
bypass. I've heard extremely mixed opinions on the Voodoo Labs version.
Ok, time to get working on that new chorus!
ERIC
This isn't necessarily a problem, but when I tried it in the store it
seemed like the CH-1 didn't go high enough, didn't have any super f'ed
up settings.
How do you rate the current CE, the CE-5?
Are the DOD pedals any good? (Dumb knob labels aside.)

My favorite chorus sound has always been a modulation delay
with around 325 secs of delay and the speed and rate adjusted to
taste. Then, i drop the mix down to around 50/50 wet/dry. The only
problem is you get these ambient delays. I do set the feedback on
the delays for about 3 to 4 repeats. You get this nice chorus sound
with the delays being an ambient type reverb. If someone could design
a chorus with this sound, minus the delays but still maintaining this
sweep pattern, I would pay dearly for it. It doesnt sound phasey at
all. For an example, take a Chandler Digital Echo and put delay
range on 500 setting, dialed in at 9 o'clock. Put the rate, depth, and
repeats on 9'oclock also. Put the mix between 11 o'clock and noon.
It is so smooth and full sounding. The T.C. SCF pedal comes close
to this on the pitch modulator setting, but it still missing
something. The old CE-1 was just too mettallic sounding and too
thick for me. I like the Digital Dimension (BOSS) pedal a lot, as long
as you keep the tone dialed in on the bass side. I just got a CE-5
and am working with it. It is pretty versatile. Not bad at all really.

This is very interesting. I have to agree that the TC chorus is
pretty unusable for me - most overrated effect I've ever bought.
The Pitch Modulation mode was the most usable. It just sounded
very metallic and grainy - especially in front of the amp. I really
like the old Ibanez CS-9 pedal. It's got a very nice thick sound,
but still cuts through well. I just bought a Boss CE-300 today.
It's a rackmount analog chorus box and I got it cheap. It's got
a very nice sound. It's subtle - in fact I can get a nice tone with
no swoosh sound and just a hint of thickening. Does anyone know
what pedal this thing was modeled after? Does anyone know what kind
of switching box I need to switch it in out?
Ross
Oop's I just noticed a booboo I made. I meant to say dropped or raised a
few cents, not semitones.
(would you believe it!?) is the Ibanez Soundtank CS-5, why? easy because it has
sounds warmer and deeper than any BOSS, also it has three knobs which are - Rate,
Depth and a Delay time control!!!! which most choruses don't offer.
The Chorus Ensemble is the weird one though.
