I was just at the Schmitt Music in Maplewood, MN and the salesman was
showing me a selection of the Guild DV-6s and 52s they had. He said they
had a solid spuce top, and solid back and sides. The DV-6s were starting
at $499.00 and the DV-52's where starting around $700.00. He seemed to
think they were a good buy and they sounded very sweet, I just want to know
what you all think.

Good Lord, DON'T waste your time and money at Schmitt! They're a "mall
music" outfit that sells pianos to suburban matrons. They will soak you
for as close to list price as they can get. Get thee to a REAL music
store posthaste! Guilds can be found at Guitar Center, Hwy. 36 and
Snelling (yeah, I know, they're a big chain outfit, but their volume at
least insures reasonable prices).

You'll be better off at Torp's, Suneson's, Water Music in Stillwater,
Willie's American Guitars, the Homestead Pickin' Parlor - ANYPLACE but
Schmitt.

Well, I did some checking around and the DV-52 High gloss lists for over
$1300. Schmitt is going to sell it to more for $769.00 and there isn't
even a mark on it. I hardly find that close to list price. I also picked
up a Foto Flame Jazz bass for $350 which listed at $839 at their Brooklyn
Center Warehouse store, where they have about 300 or so guitars like
Fender, Guild, Martin, Gretsch, Rickenbacker, and Yamaha. Plus when you
buy strings they always give you half off the 2nd set. They had a big
special on the whole Foto Flame line. Not to mention my Shure Wireless
which Schmitt sold me for $169 when GC had it on a green tag sale at $199.
So my experience with Schmitt Music is pretty good, as far as pianos go,
the one in Maplewood doesn't have any. The only thing I saw was their
software package deal with a Fatar controller.
I can never get any help when I go to Guitar Center, and when I do, the
salesmen never seem to know the products. But that isn't the worst insult
about GC:
A friend of mine wanted to get a pink Paisley Stratocastor, which Schmitt
was selling for $499, but she went over to GC because she felt she could
get it cheaper there. Well, because she is blond and good looking she
didn't have any problems getting help, but when she found the Pink Paisley
Strat the GC salesman quoted her $1200.00. Well, my friend threw a fit and
the salesman gave her the strat for $400. But I don't believe he actually
had the gall to pull that dishonest crap on any of their customers, he was
going to have my friend walk out with a Japanese stratocastor for 1200
dollars.

Well, thats all.
