I spoke with Bonnie's former manager Saturday night, who is still a very close
friend. He told me Bonnie's long-awaited new CD will be released in April, and
it's fabulous. Look for an in-depth interview on VH-1 very soon.

Being her #1 fan, I can't wait.......

Little Feat have a new one due out in a month or two. Based on their gig, it
ought to be good.

As you're her #1 fan, could you answer a question for me, please? Two
questions to be precise.

1) Will she appear on the forthcoming Lowell George tribute album?
(it's probably out in the States already.......)

2) What slide does she use? I've seen a video where I'm sure she uses
a glass slide, but she gets that LG sound. Does she use a socket too?

Thanks in advance.

Steve.

I checked with my buddy and he hasn't heard anything about this yet.
He'll ask when he talks to her office next week.

Bonnie almost always uses glass slides. More recently she's mostly used
clear glass slides (me too), but in the past she has used the top of a green
wine bottle (the name of which escapes me). I have never seen her use metal
but . . who knows?

Slide on......

She came to Cambridge in the Fall of 1967 to attend Radcliffe. She met John

He influenced her somewhat and she did his "I Ain't Blue' on her first album.
She recorded her first album ourside of Minneapolis at a lake there because her
brother (Steve) lived there. Koener's friend, Willie Murphy, produced the album
and Dave Ray played on it.

Coricidan bottle. OLD one. They're now rare. I understand she pays for old
ones, if people have them.

They are rare; I had one, but it was lost in the great fire of '92. I have not
been able to find one since. Well, I have......but the owner refused to sell
it.

Have you tried any of the medicine bottle copies that are around, such as
the Duane Allman Coricidan bottle copy or the Dunlop Blues Bottle? If so,
how do they compare to the real thing? Are there any tell-tale signs that
distinguish an original from a copy?

One thing that I always kick myself about is that my dad took Coricidan
regularly for years for his sinus problems. No telling how many of those
bottles he threw away over the years. Of course, he doesn't have any of the
old bottles now and Coricidan now comes in a plastic bottle or aluminum
punch out packs.

It seems to me that company ought to be approached by some savvy
entrepreneur who offers the following or close to it..

You get as much free advertising of your product name as advertising
you pay for.. among the guitar community.. why not capitalise on it?
And make it grow... you have the perfect opportunity.....
why not reintroduce the original bottle.. run a few ads with great
slide players in the commercials... ending with something like..

even the bottle can cure your blues...

and do the guitarists and music lovers of the world a favor,
make a really popular commercial..
get a lot of news show coverage (more free advertising) because it's
original..
and maybe win a few awards in the process
not to mention increasing sales...?

I don't know about you, but I like the idea of Bonnie Raitts Dad with
a sinus headache.. (we KNOW he can do the acting.. and he's a handsome
devil at that) with Bonnie in the background stealing his old pill
bottle..
the commercial ends up with bonnie playing a happy dad some nice
slide..the camera pans down and the label is still on the bottle...

Even the bottle can cure your blues....

er.. maybe it's not such a good idea..
It seemed good when it popped into my head.

Andrew, did the Feat play some new tunes when you saw them? The
lineup is still Barrerre-Tackett-Gradney-Payne-Hayward-Clayton-Murphy,
correct? I've seen 'em a half-dozen times through the years (June '96
most recently), and they are consistently amazing. Are they still on
Zoo Records?

She used to live down here behind the Orange Curtain in Santa Ana. In
fact I sometimes drive home down Raitt Street (actually named in her
father's honor).

That's interesting. I got my info from her former manager.

Hi Sharon,
at last year's NAMM show I've seen a company which sold the Coricidan
Bottles ("as the original Allman Slide"). I didn't liked it; the glass
was to thin (try the neck of a cretan wine bottle...very thick
glass...":))

You can get a decent replica of a coricidan bottle from a company by the name
of The Delta Slide Company. They market it as the Duane Allman slide. I
don't have the address handy. Look in back issues of GP and VGM for their
ad. I think Thoroughbred does a mail order for em for about 10 bucks. Guitar
Center stocks em too. Good replica if it fits your finger.
