Hi,
I'm looking for a bass for my son. I found one locally that I'm wanting to
know more about. It's a Fender Precision Bass, Squier Series. The serial
number near the tuners is 318054. From what I can find on the net, that
makes it a 1972, 1973? It is also labeled "made in Korea". It's yellow in
color, I thought fiberglass, but didn't look very carefully. Has a white
"pickguard" (I think they're called...), missing a few screws. There are
two small cracks on the body in the bends nearest where the necks bolts on.
Can anyone help me as to what this is worth? Also, is it a good bass to
begin on? Thanks for any help!

Squier is Fender's brand name for their import series...the serial numbers
don't follow the same scheme as the Fender-branded guitars and basses. I'm
pretty sure that the first Squier-branded instruments appeared in the
early-to-mid-80's.

If you know someone who's been playing awhile, ask them to check it out for
you. There are certain problems that can make a bass unplayable; a twisted
neck for instance.

If it checks out, it's probably a pretty good starter bass. If it's in good
condition, you'll probably pay around $100 US for it.
