That's my favorite tone on the CD. I assume that's his Matchless ?

Just looked it up in the liner notes and it doesn't say?? He had a better
fusion tone on the Dr. Hee LP, IMO. I wonder if he actually played the Fender
he's holding in the liners, or was it the Suhr??
BTW, it's a great retake of his original comp.
I know you didn't like his take on Giant Steps, but I thought it was fresh!
What about 'ol Vic with his patented "flemenco" runs on " Two for One"?? A
bass bud of mine said he had to have sold his soul to the devil to play like
that:-)

Thanks for the info on his homepage, John. I was talking about whether or not
he used his Suhr SH model on the new Vital Tech Tones cd or the Fender he's
holding in the liner notes.
I have no idea what Scott used on the Dr. Hee lp, but only know that I loved
the tone he got on it.

CDNow or CDuniverse have them.
I'd put a recommendation in for "Face First" or
perhaps "Primal Tracks" which is a best of kind of
thing. They have RA clips at cduniverse btw. Also
I think they're located up there in your area. Or
maybe Connecticut. They're very fast and my
experience w/ them has been really good.

I wish it were that exciting! Actually, I was playing basketball in a lawyers
league with some incredibly aggressive players, and a 6'7, 320 pound guy fell
on me.....(ouch!). I have a "subluxated patella" with soft tissue injury, so I
just have to stay off my feet as much as possible. My friends have been great,
chauffering me around and doing errands for me, so it's working out okay.
Sorry to hear that...

Sharon, Amazon.com has some great cd titles, but the best for obscure
"guitarist" music is Audiophile Imports.....They had loads of Scott

I've been playing basketball for close to 30 years, and have had only one
"jamming" injury.... but Steve (SEF) recently pointed out I might want to
switch sports, due to my CTS, as well as the risk of jamming fingers, etc. Now
that my knee is messed up, I think I'll try swimming for a while!

Sean, why don't you fly into New Hampshire and stay with me for a while.
You're semi-entertaining and I'm bored to tears and can't do much yet....being
semi-bedridden and all.......hehehe.
Sounds like a winner to me.
I've been walking two miles every day, but you'd never know it to look at
me. I'm tippin' the ol' scale at 320 these days. That's 120 lbs over my
ideal college weight. Sheesh!
When I had the looks, I couldn't play. Now that I can almost play . . .
Oh well.
So do ya think big fat guitarists stand any chance in this market? I keep
trying to think of something cool a guy of my build could wear. The best I
could come up with is a shirt with an elephant face on it. I thought it
might be neat to have tusks rolling over my shoulders and a great big fat
trunk coming out of my belly button. I'd rig it so it could salute, trumpet
and squirt water on people or something.
My wife rolled her eyes at the idea, which generally isn't a good sign.
I do at least have a very cool-looking hat. As long as people only look at
the hat, I'm okay. ;-)
In any case, I suggest you avoid being cavalier when it comes to your hands.
You've only got two and need 'em both.
I wonder if amateurs can insure 'em? We don't necessarily make much money
with our fingers, but after years and years of practice they're definitely
worth *a lot*, don't ya think? (Too much to risk jamming 'em anyway.)

Thanks for the info Baron, you just reminded me that Scott did use Mesa on the
Electric Band and Players lp's. I saw Scott with Chick years ago and remember
being the idiot who got to the venue early just to pick his brain about his
playing technique and approach to improvisations.

I faintly remember his whole rig, I was more into his playing. I remember a
beat to shit strat he had and the Mesa stuff.
The tones on Dr.Hee were great post modern sounds, really set the stage for
others to bridge a gap or two, so to speak.

But not for John Denver.....
I believe he used the same gear pictured
on his web site as well.
The chorus that comes in about a minute and a half into the song is most likely
the Arion or
Boss, either which are good for that fast rotating speaker sound.
Carl
Baron knows his stuff.
The man is a gear fanatic.
I even got a bit of Scott using a Tremoverb head from a few years ago.
Carl
I'm trying to find the best examples of Scott Henderson's work.
What's the best of his work from Tribal Tech? How's his work with
Joe Zawinul?
Also, the only Jean Luc Ponty CD I could find with the term anything
like "Fable" associated with it was the CD titled "Fables." Is that
the JLP CD you're referring to?
Finally, the Chick Corea Elektric Band's first CD; is it the one with
these tracks on it, circa 1988?
1. King Cockroach
2. Elektric City
3. Got A Match?
4. India Town
5. All Love
6. Silver Temple
7. Side Walk
8. No Zone
9. Cool Weasel Boogie

I play basketball as much as I play guitar and jammed fingers is definitely
a problem for me. I get one pretty bad once every couple of months.
Two years ago a broke the joint on my left ring finger. It took about
10 months to get 100%. I tape all of my finger joints except pinkies
and thumbs every time I play now and it really helps. I get minor
jams, but nothing series. Now if I could just quit getting stitches
in the face (3 times in the last 2 years...) I'd be ok!:)
Swimming is a great exercise when you've got lower body joint injuries.
If you aren't a great swimmer, running in chest/neck high water is
also excellent. This was SOP for all knee and ankle injuries when
I played football. (Talk about nasty finger jams!)
How was that for absolutely no guitar info,
Ross
