Just talked to Fenders Custom Shop, and was told that Jeff Beck has been using
prototype Vintage Noiseless pickups ever since switching out the Lace Sensors
in his "Little Richard" green Strat a little after the Carlos Santana tour era.

In fact, I was told that indeed *all* of Jeff Beck's Strats use the prototype
Noiseless pickups, and that is what led to the currect production model. Also,
that Beck's people have just ordered the new production version, which has
staggered pole heights...his prototypes use flat polepieces...for replacement
in his axes. So, in these past few years when anyone has seen or heard Jeff
Beck live or in the studio, they have been hearing prototype Vintage Noiseless
pickups! This freaked me out to learn this, and I wanted to post it.

Many know that in Fender's Frontline, there is a picture of a Strat built for
Jeff Beck by Fender Custom Shop Master Builder Todd Krause, the "Strat Fink"
guitar. It too uses the Vintage Noiseless pickups, and in fact Krause uses
*only* Vintage Noiseless pickups on his guitars!

I was also told that these American Deluxe Stratocasters ( like the one I have
) initially used a 1 meg volume and tone pots, but that was before production.
Apparently, they now use just a 500k on the volume, and 1 meg on the tone
controls. Maybe down the road I may experiment with 500k on the tone controls
too.

Anyways, just some guitar content. Hope this was interesting.

Peace,
Polfus

Actually, I was called back, and ours has the 1 meg still on the volume and
tone controls.

No problem..glad you enjoyed it. Pretty cool that Jeff Beck has been using
these prototype Vintage Noiseless pickups for a while in all of his Strats, and
no one seemed to know!

Peace,
Jason

Because Beck rolls off so much tone, it doesn't make a hell of difference what
PU he uses.

This comes as no surprise to me...I hypothesized on this in a post to this
NG last April shortly, after seeing Beck in Dallas.

Why not take your pickguard off and verify this for all of us ?

Posting History

Well, Beck has ditched the Lace Sensors for (as he states in a review)
"stock Fender single-coils". The photo's I've seen of the new set up , and
what I saw live, were of single coils WITHOUT staggered magnets. To the best
of my knowledge, Fender only has two pickup types on the market with
non-staggered pole pieces: the American Standard single coils and the new
Noiseless pickups. If I were a gambling man, I'd bet that Beck is NOT using
the American Standard pickups, which (if Jeff is not putting us on) leaves
the Noiseless pickups as the alternative. And the gold "Noiseless" logo,
which is not seen on Jeff's pickups, rubs off easily using a fingernail (as
I have personally observed). Again, if I were a gambling man, I'd bet that
Jeff has installed the new Fender Noiseless pickups into his Strats.

They should have smashed the camera over your donky head and threw you out.

I have to admit, I was a little worried for a minute that I was going to be
bounced out,
but taking the camera away was (they realized) not an option. It would have
been
their heads that would have taken the beating.

At least I posted a half-decent review of the evenings performance. Unlike
you who
posted, at most, "I was there". Go read my reviews and learn something.

There was nothing to report. It was a great show, blah, blah, blah.
It's all been said already as in your review.

Actually Jeff Beck has two sets of custom wound pickups made for him by John Suhr (I'm probably spelling that wrong) in his two main guitars. These are the pickups that the Fender Hot noiseless pickups were designed from, and Jeff uses those in the rest of his Strats,in fact he has put them in the neck position on two of his Teles.....
