Hi,
Anyone know anything about this guitar? I just inherited it from my father
and was interested in its history, etc. There is no model number on the
instrument. But the word Capistrano is on the peghead.
Thanks much.

Check the Fender website. They might have info there.

Ken

Oh yeah it's www.fender.com, I think.

Fraid not. The Fender website is limited to currently available product.

Not really- I just looked up the page on my Telecaster Plus, and they haven't
made those since '98.

A search for "Capistrano" turned up nothing, though.

Can't find it in the Vintage Guitar Price Guide either, and it
has most of the weird old stuff. Any hints you can give might help...
it is Telecaster-like? Strat-like? or hollow-body? I'm curious too.

Hmm .. that's were I found info on my 1985 Jap Strat. But then they still make
Strats.

Thanks for all the suggestions, but so far have found nothing on the Fender
site. The guitar is an acoustic guitar, 6 string, 3 piece rosewood back and
sides. Solid spruce top. The peghead is shaped like the Strat.
Thanks again for any info.

It may come as a shock to some, but I have accumulated quite a bit of reading
material regarding That Company over the last year or so. I haven't found
any mention of them guys even owning a company that made anything even
remotely close to being called Capistrano. The website won't help you at all.
I think that if Dick Smith, Bacon & Day, Forrest, and Bill Carson don't have
anything to say about it, then it didn't exist as a Fender.
It probably was a knock off of some of the early acoustics.

Around the late 80s, early 90s Fender imported a series of acoustics and
acoustic electrics, some with overgrown "000" body styles, all with a 6-per
side headstock. IIRC, the "Capistrano" was one of these.

I find this hard to swallow.

african swallows or coconuts.

Oh well, thanks to everyone for the info. Maybe I will never know the truth,
but it sure is a nice sounding instrument.
