Hello out there!

Does anybody know anything about this company? My brother
just bought one of Starfield's Altair Traditional SJ series
guitars (made in Japan) that is absolutely fabulous. He got
rid of his third Fender Strat to get this Starfield, and it
blows the strat away.

I first saw a Starfield guitar in action when I saw Don Kinsey
of the Kinsey Report use one. I was very impressed with its
sound and aesthetics. Now it's a great pleasure to see my
brother with one, as we record every week in my studio...now
I'll get to hear it all the time! The lead tone is noiseless
and in-your-face, and the clean tone has a wonderfully dark
quality that I like alot - must be that mahogany body.

Anyway, the dealer that Scott (my brother) bought the axe
from told him that Starfield has gone/is going out of business.
Can anyone confirm this? He was very vague, so he may not have
known what he was talking about, but he said that Ibanez funded
Starfield, and that they (Ibanez) weren't interested in keeping
that project going anymore, so they pulled the plug. This sounds
pretty fishy to me, can anyone clarify?

The address on the '92-'93 catalog I have is Starfield America,
7101 Case Avenue, North Hollywood CA 91605. I called information
to try to find a number, but there is no number listed for
Starfield in the North Hollywood area anymore. Any info on these
folks would be great, as I'm looking for more Starfield dealers
in my state (the one my brother was at has three left, and they
are dropping the line.)

Thanks a million,

Just a rumor, but I heard the same one.

Sorry I don't have any good info for you: but I do have a Starfield anecdote
that may or may not be worth anything:

Guy who used to work here went into the local guitar center to buy a Strat,
played a Starfield and bought it on the spot instead. After a weekend of
playing it, he went back to the same store and bought another. The dealer told
him that they weren't going to be carrying them any more but I can't
absolutely confirm that the co. is out of bus.

Impulsive guy. But they did seem pretty nice for the price, actually for any
price....

Actually, those guitars seem pretty good but I can't give a good opinion
since I didn't try any of them.

All I can say about Starfield is that Ritchie Kotzen endorsed them when he
got the gig with Poison (yikes!). Ritchie got kicked out of the band for an
affair with the singer's wife and Starfield lost their main endorser at the
same time. Those guitars didn't sell too well, and that could be a cause for
Starfield to close it's doors.

But Starfield isn't a small company with no backing, actually it's from the
same family of companies as Ibanez and Tama drums. I think it's called
Hoshono or something...

See ya!

A couple of messages a just received seem to confirm that Hoshino has
pulled the line. If you want to confirm this yourself, their phone# is
800-669-8262. I'm disappointed that they lost confidence in, what seemed
to me, to be a well-built, quality axe that was an extremely attractive
alternative to the Strat-o-clones that they (Ibanez) and others are
flooding the market with. If anyone has seen a store that still has any
in stock (especially the Altair American Custom), please let me know.
Oh well- chalk one up for the generics...
